As of this past Sat I am a proud owner of Silver/Silver STi.

However I think there are some minor problems I will be taking the car in for tomm.

I was just wondering if anyone else has these problems as well.

1.Car pulls slightly to the left. I notice that while driving straight, and hold the steering wheel with both hands, my have to use more force on my right hand to keep the car straight because I find that the car is slightly pulling to the left.

If I let the wheel go, the car slowly starts to drift leftward.

2. Speedometer is in-accurate. On the highway the speed will read I'm doing 80mph when I know I'm travelling much less than that.

With that, again I'll be taking it into the dealer tomm but I'm just trying to see if anyone else has had these problems or know if they are common occurances.

1.- It sounds like your steering wheel alignment (centering) is off? You should have your dealership mechanic look at it.

2.- I believe there have been some discussion re: this either at imprezawrxsti.com or here at NASIOC. Search for the speedometer thread.

I got mine on friday :) - And have had a couple small problems.

1- Today (a damb hot day!), the trunk would not open. It was as if the locking meckanism was stuck. The key wouldn't turn on the back, and the switch inside wouldnt budge.

2 - I have to push the little gas door in pretty far and hard for it to "click" in. I noticed that if i just close it, it will open byitself at highway speed.

Overall, I LOVE the car though. These are just minor problems -inherent with a first production year car.

I have found that it takes some elbow grease to open the trunk, even with the key. I attribute this to it being a new mechanism and what-not. However... I have found that if you don't pull up firmly and briskly on the inside trunk release handle, it won't open the trunk. Any pulling on the handle after that won't open it either. You have to "reset" the handle by opening the trunk with your key and shutting it. Then your inside release will work again. Before you tug on that handle though, make sure you have it enabled. There is a lever you have to check on the actual trunk lid. Hope this helps.

the steering does have noticable hysteresis (memory). if you make a turn , then straighten out, i and others have noticed that wheel is slightly rotated in the direction of the last turn. a friend of mine suggested this has to do with the steering rack bushings. apparently the wrx has the same thing and a change in bushing is sufficient to fix it. (so i've been told.)

Thanks

more precisely, it's on the half of the latch that is on the trunk. there's a lever and "cancel" embossed on the latch with an arrow swinging upward. i had this same kind of problem with my '91 se-r: the trunk release and the key wouldn't work. one time i had to remove the rear seats to get in the trunk to reset that level. i'm having the same problem as the original poster but fortunately haven't had to remove my seats...yet.

A friend of mine who picked up his STI a couple of weeks ago had the same problem with the alignment. The car pulled a little to the left (is that you Desai?) From what I understood the problem was related to the suspension and not the steering mechanism. Anyway it's definately covered by the waranty so bring it in.

About subaru trunks being a little too tight: I think this is endemic of most new imprezas. I remember bringing my wrx in for a tuneup and complaining about it to one of the mechanics. The story he told me is that alot of the older imprezas had very loose trunk latches. Enough people complained that Subaru decided to design a new mechanism that was a little tighter. It loosens up after a while though.

There are 2 bolts that are on the trunk side (not the lid side) that you can loosen and slighly raise the latch. Just a couple of mm and then retighten. The trunk release and opening and closeing become much easier. Simple Simple
