OK, here we go, another World Rally Blue STi! Like there aren't enough of them around, huh? ;)

Here is my 2005 World Rally Blue Subaru Impreza WRX STi. Purchased from Welsh Subaru in Limerick, PA on July 21, 2004. I bought her right off the showroom floor without even a test drive! She was a dealer transfer from another dealer. Someone had wanted a PSM, so they traded for the blue.

I loved this car right from the start. Having spent about a year researching it (mostly on this site), I knew it would be right for me. I was coming from a 97 BMW M3 coupe, so I was used to performance cars. But, all the research in the world cannot tell you what it's like to own a car like this until you actually live with it on a daily basis. I had always owned FWD and RWD coupes. Not counting my highschool 83 Dodge Aries clunker, this was the first 4-door car I had owned. And, the first AWD one. I love the utility of the 4-doors, and the AWD is awesome in the northeast where we see our fair share of snowy weather. This car with snowtires rips up the snow! I have no fear driving my car in the snow. Even with snow tires and 100lbs of rock salt in the trunk of my M3, I have never felt so safe driving a car in the white stuff as I do with my STi.

Here are some pics of the car about a week after I got it. Click any pic for its fullsize version:

I waited about 10 months before doing any mods to my car. I have always been a bit of a mod pu-ssy because of the impacts on the factory warranty. But, I really wanted to try some stuff with this car. So, the first mod I installed was the Cobb AccessPort. I bought it because of the ease of reflashing the ECU, and because I put alot of trust into Cobb. I think that they make great products, have excellent customer service, and really take the time to research their products. Plus, the AccessPort is resellable after unmarrying, and can be used with either StreetTuner, or ProTuner. Unlike some, I felt a big difference after flashing the ECU with the stage 1 93 octane map. This difference in power and smoothness over the stock mapping must have flipped something in my head, because now I have a lust for more power! :(

This leads me to my next mod, the Cobb catted turboback exhaust. I had a bit of trouble installing it because I took the easy way out and didn't remove the intercooler first. It is really hard to get any leverage on the turbo to downpipe bolts with that huge box in the way. But, after about 3 hours all was done. I installed the catback exhaust about a month before the downpipe as I am a cheap bastard and bought all my mods secondhand :D So, it took me a bit to find the downpipe. The downpipe is wrapped in thermotech wrap and I modified the stock heatshield (both in attempts to prevent heatsoak). After flashing the stage 2 93 octane map, I felt a little bump in power and slightly quicker spooling of the turbo. However, since the downpipe was installed during a 95+ degree summer, it was hard to see the performance gain right away. But, I am still happy with the results of stage 2.

Here's a pic of the downpipe installed:

Here's a crappy video I took of the exhaust:

For other little mods, I have the pink "i" badge in place of the Subaru stars, Autospeed dead pedal, Fumoto oil drain valve, JDM Hazard switch, NRG silver hood struts, colored the STi engraving on the shifter surround red, and I did the keyless entry one-press mod.

From December 1 to April 1 of every year I run Gold Rota Boost 17x8 wheels with Nokian WR snow tires.

Here's some crappy cellphone pics of them:

Here's some pics of my trunk monkey and IWSTI stickers! ;)

In the future, I plan on installing Defi Boost, EGT, and Oil Pressure gauges, Cobb front and rear sways, Kartboy rear endlinks, and a new radio headunit. I also plan on getting protuned to maximize my power mods. I may also install JDM pink springs with tophats and smaller bumpstops, but I am undecided at this point. After the car is paid off, I will reevaluate whether to keep it and install a deadbolt/FP TD06H-20g turbo with supporting mods, or sell it to buy another AWD turbo car :)

Thanks for reading my journal! I will update sometime in the future when the weather is nicer and I can get some better pics.

Good looking car.

And as far as SVT's avatar goes I'm sure he thought it was funny or something.

My avatar is a play on the previous avatar I had, which was a snip from an old 80's Rolo's commercial.

Thanks for all the compliments! I had to get the WRB/Gold to keep with the rally heritage. I just couldn't forgive myself if I didn't! :) Plus, I've owned black cars before and they are impossible to keep clean :( The WRB just sings to me.

Now, to answer some questions:

Very nice. Cobbs are pricey, but oh-so nice. Good choice.
Yes, they are a little pricey. But, you get what you pay for. I figured that they put a lot of thought and research into their products, so that time and money has to filter out into the bottom-line price. But, since I got all of my Cobb stuff used, I saved quite a bit of money over retail. And, I just can't get over the sound of the Cobb exhaust note. It really is the best compromise in sound and performance, IMHO. APS's 3" would be a close second (also pricey).

Good looking car, I love those boost's in gold.
Thanks. When I bought them from Subydude, I originally wanted the Torques in Gold. But, they were sold out. He told me that they had just gotten a shipment of SDRs and Boosts in the 5x114.3 size. So, I went with the Boosts. I need to get a better picture of them because I really think that they look great on the car. And, they are 10x easier to clean than the stock BBS wheels.

Well done sir, what's up for the future?
Well, my next purchase is going to be gauges. With the danger of detonation constantly looming over my head, it just makes plain sense to monitor what's going on with your car. I admit that it is foolish to trust an off-the-shelf map to run 100% perfect on any car, but I was willing to take the risk. Plus, if I wanna get protuned, I will definitely need to be monitoring things! I may also get a TurboXS knocklite to signal any detonation.

After the gauges I am going to tweak the suspension a little. I don't want to go all out for coilovers, so I will probably stick with springs/tophats and swaybars/endlinks.
