I'm kind of new to the Subaru family, and people have been telling me that Subaru is a GM company. Is this true? Also, what kind of cars would you guys be trading if you bought an STi? I would be trading a Volvo S60 T5. I want to go faster and handle better.

Honda is the only independant car company I can think of. Maybe I should rephrase that as a car company that mass produces cars.


Just about every other car company is either owned or partnered with an American, German, French, or Japanese car conglomorate.

Sometimes it's good (Renault+Nissan), sometimes it's really bad (BMW+Rover).

Porsche is still ind. Sometimes you need these partnerships, Ferrari not be where they are if it wasn't for Fiat's backing.

They collaborate on projects [Cayenne], and Porsche does contract out its engineering services to numerous car and racing companies. But as far as I remember they are still financially independent.
