Intake Headaches...

ok, so a long story short, I have an 07 STI I bought used from a dealer. The car already had an AEM V2 SRI on it and did not come with the stock airbox. The price was right, car had stupid low miles, fast forward a few years...

Lately Ive had a bit of hesitation which isn't uncommon for the 07 especially since I just installed some Mishimoto IC hoses and updated my stage 2 AP map, as we all know resets learning.

I figured while I was under the hood I would give the dry flow filter on the SRI a clean and give the MAF sensor a blast of CRC. So I take it apart and lookie there! For some idiotic reason, AEM has a coating on the "inside" of the intake pipe and its literally peeling away off into my engine...

Needless to say Im a little pissed about it and don't have the stock box to install in its place like I mentioned before. Any suggestions on which way I should go here? Also, any reason to be extremely concerned that the flakes have made their way into the engine?

Should I?
1. Try to strip this intake tube to bare aluminum inside somehow.
2. Buy another SRI kit to replace it and hope i dont need any missing OEM parts.
3. Locate the stock airbox setup (have no clue what parts im missing).

Thanks for any advice.

To me it seems impossible that sucking in air would cause the paint to flake off. Something has happened to the pipe in it's life but I don't think it's your car sucking the paint off of it.
If it was painted the heat from the engine bay might of caused it to flake.
I would recommend going to Adance Auto and purchase Aircraft Stripper it is used on aluminum. Wear gloves! Eye Protection, and a well ventilated area. Spray the inside of the pipe and wait 5-10 minutes the paint will start to bubble. Rinse out/run a cloth through there.

I'd go with this :)
