in a pickle

well. not sure what to do at this point. saw some white smoke coming out the tailpipe at start up. car seemed to be fine after driving 15 miles. however the rpm's at idle were jumpy. after turning off and on the car again, i noticed the rpm's would jump up for a second and then right back down to 1k. also, the engine sounded different after up shifting. the bpv didnt sound the same either. it was raining pretty heavily that day as well. now, i did buy the car with aftermarket intake and exhaust on it. i had a subaru tech look at it thoroughly before driving off with it. he concluded there were no issues, cel's etc.. i dont know if i should just get this car back to stock or pay the money for cobb stage 2. granted the car has 87k on it. just wondering what u guys would do in this situation. all comments and help welcome. thanks for reading

If you're worried about the health of the car, you shouldn't even consider upgrading to higher power output...

I wont be able to help much with the diagnosis since I haven't had anything like that happen to me, but others on here will be able to help.
Start with a compression/leadown test. That will tell you if you have anything to worry about. Monitor your oil closely to see if you are consuming much. If everything checks out either get it tuned or return it to stock. If the tests show a problem start saving now for a rebuild.
Not a Drivetrain forum issue moving to 2.5l Forum
checked the oil consumption. it is 2 quarts low! i just had it topped off less than a month ago. burning through oil like crazy. going to dealer for the 90k service soon, so i will have them look at it. according to subaru service dept. our cars can burn up to 1 quart per 1000 miles.
1 quart per 1000 seems a bit excessive. I would do a compression test and see what it looks like.
I wouldn't waste the money on a 90k mile service with these issues. Find out what is wrong first. Anything at or above 1qt/1k is a sure sign something is wrong. My car got up to a quart every 500 miles.... Right before the #4 piston blew a chunk off into the motor and causing enough of an oil pressure drop to ruin some bearings and probably threw metal into anything that has oil in it. Not a cheap fix to say the least and I am glad that I had not done the timing belt or any other major service since it all had to come out anyways.
dang man. sorry to hear that happened. what was your mileage by chance if you can remember? i am definitely worried now. need to fix the problem before any service is done. you are definitely right man.

I managed to push mine to 119k before the motor popped. Lots of abuse too.
