I have to admit what first drove me to the magazine was the picture of Import Tuner's Model Search Winner Joli Robinson on the cover. I almost missed the 350Z behind her, it's kind of an optical illusion  Sorry, no scanner, folks, but it's out on the newsstands so check it out.

Anyway, there's an article of the WRX STi and it was a rather good article. The large hood scoop that bothered the writer at first seemed to grow on him...but then why not when you got a car that grips tenaciously to mountain roads and does the 1/4 mile in 13 flat (so he claimed)? What was really cool about this article is the pics on the first page of 5, yes count 'em 5, STi's in a row, all of the blue/gold color combo. Guess that's the official magazine color combo that SOA has decided upon.

The issue also lists both the WRX and the STi on pages 139 and 140 as 2 of 14 cars that our US troops can get with their "danger pay". Except they messed up and swapped the pics. DUH.

What is this "danger pay" (besides the obvious :p )? Could you explain it to me? And what are the other 12 cars on this "list"? And why would the troops choose a wrx if they could get an STi?

I'm just guessing, but Danger pay probably is calculated based on:
1. how close to the terrorists you got
2. ranking of #1 terrorists on FBI most wanted list
3. how many of them you killed
4. ranking of #3 terrorists
5. how many of them shot at you
6. ranking of #5 terrorists
7. how many wounds you got
8. ranking of #7 terrorists that took those shots at you

The cars, in order of appearance in the article:
Mazda Mazdaspeed Protegé
Subaru Impreza WRX (with STi photo shown)
Nissan 350Z
Mazda 6
Subaru Impreza STi (with WRX wagon photo shown)
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution
Toyota Matrix XRS
Acura RSX Type S
Lexus IS300
Toyota MR2 Spyder
Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V
Suzuki Aerio SX AWD (I guess for the more timid and not so bright soldier)
Honda Civic Si (for the timid soldier but at least smarter than the guy above)
Hyundai Tiburon GT V6

choonzAWR -

wow...lucky you! I read the interview (yes I actually read it!) and she seems like a really cool person, and a tough chick too! Wish I could meet her, if she's ever in LA doing a show, I'll try to go and check it out :)

Speaking of Import Rev carshow in Secaucus, I was there too! choonzAWR, were you that guy sitting by her (when she was the only model at the booth at that time - around 10pm) when my friend and I asked her to take a picture with us?...I bought the Import Life DVD and she gave me an RPM mag...do you remember? Were you that guy?...

Anyway, about Joli, she seem to be a sweet person (not sure about her being tough though...gentle maybe?). I spoke to her for a minute or two and she seemed like a very nice and friendly person...not snobbish like other models I've encountered (on other shows). Believe it or not, she even asked me to email her the pics I took but I can't seem to find her email address in the website she told me about: www.importlife.tv...I'd have to admit she's the best model I know and from NJ (yeah babee)!

choonzAWR, when you get a chance when you see her or talk to her tell her j aquino said what's up (if she'd still remember..prolly not)...if you don't mind...

You'll do that for me? Thanks man! Hopefully she'll remember who I was...my name was so complicated I had to write it for her so I could get her autograph :p  I'm pretty sure she's a cool person...I could tell just by talking to her for 1 minute 8) :D She's very pleasant to talk to.

Anyway, let me end this now before it gets out of hand and this thread becomes a Joli thread...It's all your fault SnowbordrWRX...you started it! :x ...hehe j/k  ...Which reminds me I have to get that issue of Import Tuner...

I was reading that issue again and came across the article about the 2004 Acura TL concept...there's speculation that it may have 280 hp and come with DVD audio and XM radio standard
