So I'm 16 years old, currently a junior in high school, and hopefully by the end of senior year I should have my own STi. (Thanks super awesome parents/dad who likes STis just as much as I do) Anyway, I'm looking into the new SE STi that I saw recently at the LA Auto Show last week. What are your thoughts on it?

i'd say pay a bit more and just go for the regular sti, the se doesn't really appeal to me since i would change most of the parts anyways lol.

OP: Ignore these haters. The SE isn't as special as it could be, but if you don't plan on modding, it could be a good choice.

At least your folks are getting you a somewhat safe car, not an SRT-4 or something.

The only thing I really dislike about the SE is that it isn't equipped with HID's. I mean, that can be fixed easily.. but why not just stock?

haha, sorry, i should really be in the newbie section. my bad. anyway, i agree i wish the stock headlights came HID. i'm not sure about the mods yet. the z my brother has been modding has been getting him into trouble.

i don't think the suspension on the SE is all that great either. It's what, like a mm thicker or something?

by the uncertainty of this question, i see you've been doing your in depth homework on the SE. :S

Personally, I think you should be driving a car of less performance when learning to drive. There have been hundreds of stories in the news over the years about new drivers killed with high performance cars, who didn't have the experience to handle it.

I've been driving 25+ years, the last 8 with a commercial license, and with my STi over the last year, it can surprise me as to what it can do.

good luck

The SOA Product Center is either stacked with retards, or they're smoking crack. Their N/A product offerings just make no sense to me. It's like GM where you can get power locks with manual windows. Or you can have either the manual transmission or the more powerful motor.

They took the HIDS from the SE STi's and put them in the 2010 Limited WRX. Btw power windows weigh alot, power locks don't(Evos did this too as well as the Jap Spec C).

I'm with everyone else. Unless you do truly have a good driving background to look into something cheaper- alot cheaper. It's not bad to have a beater as a first car, if anything should be mandatory. You're going to make mistakes(like the rest of us) and it's better to make those mistakes to learn from on a crappy car you wouldn't care about. It's also so much more fun driving a slow car fast then a fast car slow. Either way welcome to the boards.

Welcome to the forum. Start reading the stickys. Also count your blessings... you have awesome parents.
Amen. Let's leave the parenting to the parents, HIS parents. As for your questions, it really depends on what you're looking for. For me, the no HID's is a deal breaker because (and this is going to sound horrible), once you go HID, you just do not want to go back. As for the stripped down radio, tough to imagine a more stripped down one than the current stock one.

At any rate, you need to see if you can live the features or lack thereof and go from there. If the decision is a monetary one, you should also consider resale value as its always easier to sell a car with more options than one without.

And to go against my own recommendation about parenting, PLEASE be careful with this car. It's fairly forgiving but the amount of power really can sneak up on you if you're not paying attention, which is VERY easy to do when you're just starting out.

Anyway, you can spend weeks reading up on the GR on these boards. Do your homework, punny?, and figure out what you want and what you need.

lol BADSTI you basically said it. I got my first STi at a relatively young age and didnt wreck it... but I grew up around motorsports. The first manual car i drove was a 475whp corvette lol and i was 12. In other words we do not know the kids background and shouldnt pass judgment. As far as the car goes, from the sound of it, by the time you are in the market the 216a might be here... keep that in mind

If you have a good amount of self control you should be fine with the STI. I learned to drive on mine and it hasn't touched another car or object yet. It really just comes down to responsibility. As other people have said the STI is a very safe car (I also view the performance as a safety benefit, braking and responsiveness are key in avoiding accidents). I find myself unable to drive "normal" cars after driving mine just due to how unresponsive they are. And if you live in anywhere that gets snow, the STI is also perfect for that. However if you think you will have to urge to speed and drive recklessly, don't get it.

Welcome to the forums. The best modification you can make at your age is a professional driver's course (~$500). If you want to maintain your health, never try to impress your friends with the car. The rest has already been said.

So my post gets deleted and i get a "infraction" because it wasn't contstructive however all these posts stay. GG Mod Staff, if you are going to be strict be strict with all not just the SRT guy that shows up to learn more about STi's.

Since my post got deleted, here is what i posted for anyone that wants to know.
"A highschool kid with a STi, lol.. Should you start the part out thread now"

Now go ahead and give me another infraction, I don't really mind because I mostly just browse the journals.

Merry Christmas IWSTI Mod Staff.
Luis,
Although I will wish you a Merry Christmas back, the rest of your comment was not needed. I don't need anyone pointing out reasons why any MOD deleted some posts and left others. Maybe you do not understand the concept of what is constructive and what is not. One moderator may think it is and another may not. In my review, some of the posts you quoted were not constructive and were handled by me, some were in my view still alright in my book. We are in no way singling you out because of the car you drive, and you should not even think that is the case. We have rules that govern this site that everyone agrees to when they join and we try to hold the members to the rules, but there are few of us and many posts. We do this voluntarily and ask that the membership assist by reporting posts by clicking the triangle with ! that exists in the bottom left corner of every post. If you would like to discuss the matter further, please take it to PM please.
