If Im in any gear and i give my car some gas brnging it over 4000 rpms i hear a strange noise coming from underneath my hood. it sounds like a metal clinging noise. it only happens for like 2 seconds and then goes away, till i go to my next gear and it happens again. my dealer said that it was my c diff locking into 50/50. is that right? somebody please help (My c diff control is set at auto)

Thaks

But none of the sounds for pinging and detonation have a 'metal clinging' sound. That is the part that gets me. If it is really coming from the hood area I wonder if a clamp is loose or is it something else altogether and just the movement of the car causes the noise. I'm not discounting the detonation problem that some are having, at the 4000rpm mark, but no one has said it had a metal sound. SFRinNJ

Interesting, the thing is most people like to describe pinging as bb's in a tin can. That to me denotes a metalic sound.

hyperion, that's a log of detonation! Is that your motor? If so, don't let it do that any more...that's too much knock - very harmful!!! Easiest fix is more octane.
