My Car burned less than .5 qt per 5000 miles, then started burning 1.5 per 3000 miles. It kept that pace for 30k miles before moving onto 1 qt per 500 miles at which point i confirmed my fears for the last 30k that I had a cracked land.

New short block burns about .25qt every 3000 miles, i push the car occasionally. Anything over 1 qt every 3-5k is a little too much IMHO

Bringing it up from the dead...I have burned about 1.5 qt in 5000 miles. Refilled the missing oil with T6 and getting a full change to T6 on Friday

Oh look this is back lol. Well good news for me i haven't burned any, maybe .1 qt, in the last month so thats looking up. Im hoping it was mostly from the engine breaking in. Still have about another month till shes due for a change and still contemplating between T6 and M1 0-40!

@3300 miles i changed the dino oil to t6. I took a trip from clarksville,tn too miami fl, drove all over miami for 2 weeks and retured(may13-27) have put 3.9k miles since i changed it on may10th and have not burned a single ounce of oil. I plan on chnging it this weekend and will send samples to blackstone labs to make sure alls good as it seems

Wanted to ask I am running Rotella T6 - and I have been burning a crazy amount. I dont push the car a lot all the time.

2011 STI - Stage 2 Off Shelf COBB MAP Normal Wastegate

Running 94 Octane here in Canada from Chevron
Car has about 58,xxx
I do oil change about every 5000km, but the oil is running out. @ 4-4400km its gone I have to top up. There is no blue smoke coming out of the exhaust.

09 sti here with 41k. About to install a new short block with cp pistons. You'll know when it's time to worry - I 'm burning over 1 qt per 1000 miles.

Guess its time for me to start worrying; Mobil 1 5w30, I lost 5qts in 4,200 miles :lol:
Just switched to 0w40 this past weekend, gonna see if that helps at all.

'05 with 104K miles on a completely stock block, Stage 2 for most of her life, and she def wasn't babied either.

Compression test here we come!

These motors are notorious for going through Mobil 1 5w30 like water

I had zero oil consumption with GC 0w30 for 60,000 miles and running at >400whp; pistons visually perfect on tear down. Currently I've been running Rotella T6 5w40 on this built longblock with no consumption for the past 15,000 miles. Given their stellar track record, I highly recommend GC and Rotella

Hey everybody just curious as to how much oil everyone is burning. In my 2013 STI m using about .5 to 1 quart every 3K miles and am curious to how that compares to others. Im currently using amsoil SS 5w-30 would switching to a heavier oil such as Mobil 1 0w-40 or T6 help with the consumption? Thanks!!
I have a built motor and I do not burn any oil. I am running Amsoil 20w-50.

I push my STI very hard, typical mileage for me is in the 12-15 range, maybe 17-18 if it's raining, but often less.

In almost 3k miles the oil dipstick is more than 3/4 away from the "fill line" and is still less than 1/4 from the "full" line.

So I don't think I burn very much oil at all, shocking for a Subaru turbo I know.

I was 120% anal during break in, gave it full throttle only once or twice when I needed to get out of the way, almost never exceeded 4k RPM. The first 100 miles I always drove <60mph, and the next 400 I never exceeded 65-70. The last 500 I had a little more fun but I only hit about 5k once or twice, almost never gave it more than 1/2 throttle, and I kept varying RPM's, shifting around and changing speeds, even on the highway.

Running German Castrol 0W30 here on an 07 with 55k miles on the odo, the most I've ever seen my car burn is about 1/4- 1/2 quart of oil every 3000 miles if I do any spirited driving within the oil change interval. If I baby the car and try my best to stay out of boost, the car wont burn any oil at all.

2011 Sedan with 57k using Red Line 5W/40 with no consumption.

2011 STI 27k miles. First 3k miles used subaru oil and it burned 1 qt in that time. After reading on the forums about Rotella T6 I switched to that and now it burns around 1qt per 5k miles.

Its been this way since I bought the car and I'm not to worried about it but I do monitor it closely. i don't track the car at all besides the usual spirited street driving.

I ran a few oils in my STi all castrol until now

5w30 castrol GTX (dealer semi synth)
5w30 Castrol EDGE fully synth (own services from here on)
0W40 Castrol EDGE (hoped to have better lucrication aswell in high as very low temps)

Since the last 4 months i went from 2 very short trips a day to alot longer trips and alot more miles due to now having a GF ^^

So the last 1500 miles i was too busy driving the car and forgot to check the oil. Went from full on the dipstick (when i met my gf) to the L mark in those 1500 miles ... no idea if this would have happened with the 5w30 aswell because i suddenly drive the car differently i.e pushing it harder on occasion and alot longer trips so much more operating temp miles.

Anyway had a talk with my oil guy and i'm now on 5W50 of a local brand (denicol) held in high regard by many people on the belgian subaru forums and it's a big name here with kart/motorcross etc and my oil guy swears by it. So i gave it a shot :)

It was cheaper than the castrol too ... hopefully my engine will like it and not burn so much oil anymore.
