Hi:

Just curious to know to know if any are trading down to get the STi? I have hear of some selling their Porsche Boxster, 911, Corvette, or other preformance cars to get the STi.

Personally, I was hoping on getting a 911 before my 40th B-day (in a few years) but am seriously debating getting a STi now!!! Some may call this crazy but then again only the passionate are crazy.

Regards.

I am actually trading up, but when I was in Australia 2 months ago, I visited and Subaru dealer (sat in STI) and he told me that it is very common over there for people to trade in their Porsches for this car. It could just be a dealer talk, but he knew I wasn't gonna buy it from him so he may have been telling the truth (no offense Murley :D )

I'm not trading down but getting a 911 (either 993 or 964) was my original plan until I decided to really do some research. Now I think I'll get an STi instead! Here are my reasons: cheaper (to buy, insure and maintain), better performance except top speed (but how often do you need to go faster than 155?), less of a target for thieves and vandals (I think). I don't need a status symbol, I need to feel the g's!

Mnalla & BMo, I hear your guys. I could certainly afford a more expensive car and have looked at the 911, M3 and Boxster and previously owned a Vette. I just couldnt pull the trigger on the 911, they are very cool but I could not justify 85K for that particular car. In another post I spelled out some reasons why the STi is a good choice.

1. 85K Porshce maybe gets the kid glove treatment, STi sees no mercy.
2. Door ding on Porsche big problem, door ding on STi, what door ding?
3. 85K Porsche, fast, STi still in th rearview mirror and now he's flashing me.
4. Insurance on Porsche? 2K-2500, STi, maybe a grand.
5. Can't scare the kids in the backseat of the Porsche.
6. Tearing up the interior of the Porsche for rocking stereo, not gonna happen. STi, already to accept booming pro-audio system.
7. Money saved on STi used as downpayment for wifes Cayenne.

I'm adding to a constantly changing group of cars. The STi will replace the WRX I gave to my daughter.

Other current and scheduled cars:

02 M3 Coupe
02 Z06 with bolt-ons
02 S2000
04 E55 (ordered)
04 GT3 (ordered)
04 RS6 (ordered, but doubt I'll buy)

LOL..... I knew there was somebody with more cars than me on this forum. Although i'm betting my RX-7 is the fastest one on here with an 11.8 1/4 mile on street/drag tires. And thats with bad traction....which i'm gonna fix this summer....looking to hit low 11's by summers end without using slicks. Why are u gonna pass on the RS6? It is a fantastic car that gives the M5 a run for its money. My audi dealership isn't gonna carry it and won't be able to service one if somebody round here got one anyways. Peace.

I love the look, luxury and performance of the RS6. I saw one at the Detroit Auto Show last January in the same colors (see below) I ended up ordering. The only reason not to buy it is the huge loss I would PROBABLY take on the car. If the semi-exotic car market miraculously rebounds, I'd buy the RS6 in a heartbeat, drive it for 3 months, and sell it. But losing thousands of dollars on that car would be tough to take.
