I wouldn't take any stock car to HIN. Even very nice cars are overlooked there.
I've been to HIN Chicago 3 years in a row now and I've determined that shows of that caliber are really for the big names only. If you have a nice car, keep it out in the parking lot (where the real show is IMHO).
Not to dog on people who have shown at HIN, but for the time, effort, and inconvience of showing at a show like that, the recognition seems to be a little too ego driven for me. I enjoy getting looks on the street, but I don't feel I need to
- spend $40 to register my car
- go without a car for 2 days
- sit by my car for 8 hours straight to watch the kids so they don't scratch it
all just to be ignored by 90% of the people walking by. The weekend is much better spent cruising with friends (large groups of cars heading to HIN at 100+ MPH, very fun!), going to the show, and then having a night on the town is much better IMO.
Just a note...I'll be heading to Chicago again this year for HIN. I have several friends in the area who are all current/former Celica owners. Now we have WRXs, 350Zs, a few Celicas.....anyway. We'll be there this year again if anyone is looking for some car geeks to run around with.
