Anyone thinking about putting their baby up for display at Hot Import Nights? I went to one of their shows last year and couldn't help but think how sweet an STI would be on the floor there. Only thing is that you would probably want a sound system in there and that would add a lot of impractical weight for people that want to *really* show off the racing aspect of their machine.

I wouldn't take any stock car to HIN. Even very nice cars are overlooked there.

I've been to HIN Chicago 3 years in a row now and I've determined that shows of that caliber are really for the big names only. If you have a nice car, keep it out in the parking lot (where the real show is IMHO).

Not to dog on people who have shown at HIN, but for the time, effort, and inconvience of showing at a show like that, the recognition seems to be a little too ego driven for me. I enjoy getting looks on the street, but I don't feel I need to

- spend $40 to register my car
- go without a car for 2 days
- sit by my car for 8 hours straight to watch the kids so they don't scratch it

all just to be ignored by 90% of the people walking by. The weekend is much better spent cruising with friends (large groups of cars heading to HIN at 100+ MPH, very fun!), going to the show, and then having a night on the town is much better IMO.

Just a note...I'll be heading to Chicago again this year for HIN. I have several friends in the area who are all current/former Celica owners. Now we have WRXs, 350Zs, a few Celicas.....anyway. We'll be there this year again if anyone is looking for some car geeks to run around with.

dude, do what u want, man. i'm probly gonna have a custom install in my spare tire well for a kicker l7. i mean, u're the one drivin it around, and no matter how hard u try, u can't please everyone. the most important thing is that u like your car, and u love to drive it around. i've learned this from experience, unfortunately. but anyway, i haven't been to a hin. r they cool?

Oh hey, don't get me wrong here. To each his own, I was just giving my opinion after being to several shows, even before HIN was as big as it is. I've known people who have showed, I've even registered to show my Celica in the past, and I was giving my opinion.

Damn straight to each his own. I was saying the same thing....be happy with what you have. You don't need to enter a show like that to be 'cool' or something.

Well...

One thing I grew to respect a lot about Subaru community is that the focus is not about the "looks" of the car. We are talking about people who really love and know their cars.

Shows like HIN might be flashy. But, it definitely is not about "The Car". It's more about the looks of the car, how ridiculously loud your speakers are, and to pretend like you have a good car by having a half naked woman in front of your car. Oh yeah! One more thing. They try to go really fast on a straight race track

Well, I really sound too snobby here. I don't mind people taking their respectable car like STI to HIN. But, I hope they will have some dignity and don't go down to immature level of all the high school kids who bring their riced out cars that their rich daddy bought for them.
