Tjamz have you installed a remote start alarm combo? Can you specify a plug or have a picture of where this green wire is? Is the tach wire where you got the tach signal at the ECU? Do you think i will get anyfeedback or spike and fry the brain? Thanks

Yes, I have installed in excess of 2000 remote starts and a good percentage (maybe 10% or so) were remote start/security combos. From directechs, here is the plug you are looking for

On the non-turbo models the tach is in pin 10 of the 35 pin plug. On the turbo models the tach is in pin 9 of the 24 pin plug. On the STi models the tach is in pin 23 of the 34 pin plug.

The tach wire is also found behind the instrument cluster.

Hope this helps.....and for the record, no you shouldn't have any feedback/spike that could fry the ECU. Been doing these since 1992 w/ no ECU deaths.

Its a little different for the 05, as I have a 04. So I cannot give you the exact pin. But the ECU is located under the passenger kick panel. You remove the side kick panel at the bottom right of the car. You'll see some wires and whatnot. Pull back the carpet and remove the 4 bolts that hold the kick panel up. From there you'll see the ECU with all the pinouts. Its like 5 plugs (cant remember) on the right hand side. Just get the pinout list of the 05 ECU and tap into your tach wire right there.

Another option is to tap into the wire itself behind the tach. I like all my wires centralized though.

I know you didn't ask but you should also tap into the NSS wire (Neutral Safety Switch) while you are down there. This will make it so you cant start the car if its not in neutral. Added safety FTW.

Lucky you not having to add double relays because the 2004 NSS wire is reversed with ground and voltage. Blah.

I have an 05 STi and I work with Directed Electronics. The info given above is correct but you may have some issues when learning the tach. What I did was go straight under the hood and found it at the coil. You are pretty much guaranteed for it to work there. As far as the NSS, i am not 100% sure if an 05 STi has one. As for my own vehicle, I went with the CompuStar since it is capable of doing manual transmissions and offers the 2 way LCD remote. None of the Directed (Viper, Python, AutoMate, etc) are capable of doing manual transmissions unless the vehicle is equipped with a NSS. The only Directed piece that offers manual transmission is the Clifford, but not the Matrix, the Clifford Solaris, i believe it is.

I just installed a Viper 791 (by Directed) in my 04. I did quite a bit of research. The STi will learn the tach from the ECU in all models (04+). I tried this method first as I didn't want to goto the coil. The NSS wire is in both cars as well. The only place I could tap into it was at the ECU however. Not too big of a deal. The NSS wire basically just looks for a ground. The STi will put out ground while the shifter is in neutral (in 2005-06). In mine it was ground while the shifter is in gear (2004) in which you have to run dual relays to reverse the ground and shutoff once the car is started. PITA, the 05+ is much easier. I also got the 2 way with LCD. Its pretty nice. I also found out that you can tap in the trunk sensor, and do a mercury switch for the hood. Woot for safety.

BTW. Compustars are nice as well. I helped install into a buddies civic. Has much better range than my viper which by stats should have won. Blah.
