Dealer who spoke with "Subaru factory rep" was told 700 STi's for the first year, 1000 per year thereafter (sounds like Integra Type R volumes). Also said release between March 1 and May 1, 2003. Confirmed Detroit Auto Show, and also said it will be at the Portland Auto Show.

700 sucks 'cause there won't be enough to go around. Hope everyone that wants one is on a list (or two).

If 700 is the number...is this because of a very very poor underestimation of potential sales, purposely limiting availibility, or due to manufacturing limitations the first year?

On the other hand if the STI comes in with a base price above $32k then 700 is spot on.
