Hey guys,
For those of you putting in the Alpine CDA-9815 or 9813, did you install yourself or have a shop do it? I'm wondering about the direct connection to the battery that needs to be done. Where did that wire run? Did you go through a pre-existing grommet in the firewall?
Thanks!

Here is a pic with the DIN pocket door open. I ordered the pocket from subaruparts.com. FYI, the part number is 66128SA040. It was $18.68 + shipping. You will have to drill the metal ISO brackets in order to get it to fit perfect with a DIN deck. I am not sure if it will hold an entire CD case, i'm sure it will. I installed the deck myself. The deck will bolt directly to the ISO mounts and the holes even line up perfect, no need to drill anything except if you go with the same DIN pocket I went with. The factory open pocket will work perfect since its already installed. The connection to the battery is fairly simple. There is a separate fused power wire connected to the deck. I soldered that to 8 gauge wire and ran it through the passenger side of the firewall. There is a ventilation hose(not sure what its for) that runs through the firewall. I just squeezed the power wire beside the hose and made sure the rubber grommet installed back into place. Once you look underneath the glove box, you will see what I'm talking about.

good info stiperformance. i'm a little more motivated to save the $600 installation fee and install my system myself. now i just need some tips on installing a 5channel amp. the connection is easy; i'm just worried about running all those wires safely so they don't strip over time.

The installation is realtively easy to do, it just takes time and patience. In the end, the results are worth it and you get the satisfaction that you accomplished the install on your own. I always take my time and get everything close to perfect. As for running the wire, you can run everything close to the lower part of the door jam or under the center console. Just make sure you keep the power wire on one side and signal wire on the other to minimize interference.

by "side" you mean side of the car? e.g. power runs down the drivers side; signal to and from the amp on the other side?

also, did you run the amplfied signal for the front and rear back under the dash and connect to the stock connector?? (this way you reuse the stock speaker wiring.) or did you run new wire to the individual speakers?

and by "under the center console" do you mean a straight shot from the headunit, under the carpet?
