I found a company that sells very nice looking heads up display modules. They can post anything from speed, rpm, temps, boost, compass and even add turbo timers. The site is

They look pretty well built and the price is not bad at all. Most are under $300. Forget the pillar mounted gauges I am going to take a look at these.

Am I missing something....it looks like you'd need at least a few units to put all that info up.

Another thing to consider is the measurement accuracy. I'm going to stick with Greddy or other high quality gauges.

Has anyone used something like that? You'd think they'd be hard to see in daylight.

while not a trick as some others, i think vdo is the defacto standard for serious racers.

I don't think you can't beat Defi, considering they are the ones that make (or at least developed) the new OEM instrumentation for the STi. They tend to be very pricey, though. For the money, VDO and AutoMeter offer very nice gauges.

Yeah, I seem to have heard a lot of good stuff about defi, I will definately check them out when I need some gauges.

yea i dont know whats wrong with that site, or i just dont know where to clikc but all i saw were gauges, i didnt see any heads up displays

When you go to the site click on the V.S.D. It is the heads up display model and they even have a little demo of the unit on the bottom. I think that it would be pretty cool and it seems user friendly as well. I am going to be too busy driving with a huge smile on my face to be searching for a gauge for a couple of months anyway so I haven't looked at them in too much detail.

I've always wanted this, after seeing it in one of my neighbors cars when i was a wee lad. I wonder if it displays in miles per hour or just in kmh. :-? If it does mph i will definitely get this.

The picture they have is in daytime, but it's easy to do that using a computer manipulated picture.

I hate how defi costs so much, its great stuff but you can get boost gauges for 50 bucks...

I could understand a little "bling" tax, but over $300 on 1 gauge is nuts

I know most hud you gotta lay a strip of tint on your windshield.

It does have an option to display in mph. I will probably be picking one up within a week or two.

i used to have a HUD in my previous car (1997 pontiac grand prix GT) - it was an option from pontiac back then, and i absolutely loved it. You always knew exactly how fast you were going, and it also showed stuff like radio station tuning, cd track information, check engine light, low fuel warning, blinkers, high beam indicator, etc. And the windshield in that car did not have a layer of tint on it, but i remember reading somewhere that the windshield for that car had a special filament between the glass, and that a replacement windshield was over $1500...

I had a HUD in my 2000 GTP and I loved it. The glass is different, but not really special. I had one winshield replaced and it was under $300.00{new} from a friend.

The only thing i can think of was when i heard that price was back in 1997 when the car was brand new, and i would imagine as with anything, prices drop as technology gets older - $300 sounds like a bargain - good to know, as i sold / gave the car to my grandmother

Defi makes great gauges, Im sure just as good as Greddy, if not better.
