21 sti, had for a year and 3 months. Recently I found my sti won’t shift into 1st when need to take off from stop. Even the car is fully warm, is like something against in gear won’t let me get into 1st. When let clutch out and press again it works. Not happened every day, but still often. Will change the gear oil will fix this issue?

That's way more excessive than mine. How many miles have you put on it? After 25k mine had a transmission flush with Motul 300 75W-90. That was probably at 24k miles. I'm at 35k now. I believe it calls for every 30k miles to flush it.

Mine only happens occasionally, if at all though.

Unless you drive it hard/track, not sure it would make a difference. Doesn't hurt to flush it though, and it's super easy to do.

But I know what you mean, it's like something is blocking the shifter from moving. I feel awkward waiting that extra couple of seconds from a stop light, lmao. 😂

You're probably still in warranty, so taking it to the dealership is probably recommended if that's the case.

11k right now. I’m gonna change the transmission fluid to motul gear 300 too on next 13k miles maintenance(subi expert shop to do the job). See if the issue still there then I’ll bring to deer.

Something that I started doing was slowly going into first vs. faster. Maybe you do that already, who knows. But I started to do that and I rarely see it anymore. Just a nice, calm shift into first. Ha.

Honestly, if you have the jacks it's one drain bolt, and one fill bolt. Fill to the top until it spills over, done. But if you don't want to deal with discarding the fluid, the shop works too! Smeedia has a simple video showing how this is done. I always prefer DIY, but obviously, not everyone values the same thing. 🤙

Yeah, before I’ve think I’m not shift correctly to 1st, tried slow works fine, but this issue just come without any sign. I would like to trying diy, but living in small apartment is hard for me to keep tolls and don’t have much space for me to do the diy maintenance job.

This happens to my 19 STI as well. I'm running 2 quarts of Red Line Lightweight Shockproof, and three quarts of their 75w-90 in my transmission and it still happens. The gear oil helped with grinding into second, and generally helped with ease of gearbox operation, but I still have situations where I can't get into first in the manner you've described. This also happened with my Mustang GT, Golf R, and Mazdaspeed3 before this car. I would drive it and not worry about it.

When you're at a stop, slip it into 2nd or 3rd right before hitting 1st. Should let it slip right in every time.

Way too early to change the fluid IMO, unless you have done some damage to the trans. Be weary of fluid change fixes, opinions vary widely as to what improves what conditions. IIRC there is a decent in-depth thread on NASIOC that covers different fluid types, additives, compatibilities, and interaction with gear, syncro, shifting action, and what changes they can make.

Thank you for reply I’ve already bought 6 quarts gear 300, and will get redline too worth to try a sooner oil change.

Thank you for reply. I will let the dealer know when next service coming up. And keep monitoring the issues. Don’t have for 3 days, and just happened second ago.

I should have mentioned I do quickly switch to second then go to first and it always works.
