Hard start in the morning

So I've been searching for a while now, and if I missed something please let me know, but here's my problem.

I live up in Canada, and my 2012 STI is having a hard time starting in the morning, even though it isn't that cold outside (for canadian standards haha). It goes down to about 5-10 degrees celsius as a reference.

I decided to go see my Subaru mechanic, and he scanned the car even though I had no lights on. I got two codes in the ECU :

1- P1521 - Brake switch circuit
2- P1720 - DCCD can system circuit (I think so anyways)

Could this be my problem? Could this be the reason I have a hard time starting my car?

I do have a protune as well, but the problem was there before the tune, I just didn't pay attention to it. No other mods.

I also put the key on "Accesory" for about 5 seconds before starting, and I'm still having trouble.

Any help?

Thanks guys!

29 000 kilometers, so about 18 000 miles. And no mods except the protune.
check your starter solenoid; I live in Ottawa and my starter is getting a little rough now. I had no trouble starting it in -20 in the winter

As for the 2 CEL's if they don't show up, they're 'pending' unless who ever tuned the car completely shut off CEL's which is bad... However, I don't see how they could be related to bad start up.
Yeah I don't think the tuner (Chris) shut anything off.

When you say they're "pending", what does that mean exactly? Are they not to be considered?

Chris definitely didn't shut them off, he's a great tuner!

I believe it's when the problem is beginning but not the extended where the ECU thinks it's confirmed; still worth checking out though.

Give Chris a call/text and arrange something with him, him and Sean (Sean is the mechanic and also does all the driving while Chris tunes) will take care of you.

P.S tell him you've met a crazy 20 year old named Al and he passes his hello.

PPS ask him about the dyno day at KVR on this upcoming saturday.
Yeah I already gave Chris a call, I'd just rather solve the problem without having to go to the dealership. I'll go see Warren I guess and see if he can figure something out.

Thing is though the car cranks fast, it just takes a lot of time and I always wonder if it will start, and it only does it after it sat for a while or overnight. Other than that it starts without issue.

I just realised who you were on the NCSC haha, you're the guy who fixes cellphones and all that right?

that's me
Yeah that's what I thought haha.

What should I check for on my starter solenoid? Any other ideas on what it could be?

Simple clean up as it may have dirt in it or something; if you have time i'd check spark plug gaps, they should be between 0.027" and 0.033"

Great I'll check that out.

Thanks!
I just had this pop up on mine as well in the last week or two, mostly when it went down to 5-10C like you said. I just got from a trip yesterday. It's been parked for 6 days. I went to a cruise night last night, no issues. It worked decent this morning, seems slow on the starter or sparks side. I let all the nav, pumps, hvac and belts start up before I started it.

Mine is completely stock @ 84k.

I'll be troubleshooting a bunch. I'll let you know if I find anything. I have a feeling the spark plugs are done. They were never replaced yet and it's been through rough humid winters.

Yeah good idea, I'll try letting all the electronics start first, maybe that'll help! I used to let my 07 WRX on accesory for about 5-10 seconds and it always started, even during cold winter mornings. They were rough starts, but it started better than this one.

I'll be bringing it to the dealership next week if I don't figure anything out, until then I'll troubleshoot as well.

Let me know if you find anything!
