Either resonator or the muffler. Not actual hair. It’s part of what absorbs sound to get the right exhaust note. Likely one of the mufflers welds internally broke and that’s why it’s coming out. Your exhaust will get louder the more that comes out.

I tried burning the stuff. It is, in fact, fiber glass or at least something that doesn't burn.

The exaughst is quite old.

Obviously, this isn't ideal, and I'll replace it at some point... but is this going to cause problem

probably not. it does depend on where it's coming from. if it's coming from the resonator, it could cause a decent size flow restriction in the exhaust, if it's from the muffler itself, it could as well, but would be easier to get to. chances are it'll just spit that out, then get a little louder and that's all.

I had the same exact thing happen to my Q300 as well. I ended up removing the exhaust and when i shook the mufflers it sounded like pennies in a jar, must have corroded from the inside out, would only happen when doing a hard pull though.

My bank account would certainly appreciate this, but I probably won't be putting a stock one back on

Thanks for showing that, though.

@killerbmotorsport I'm fairly sure it's the muffler. What would be the problems in the future ?

&& and since this seems to be something that's happens with the Q300, is there a better exaughst out there or brand.

The one mar100 showed is my exact exaughst

Bought this used. I was considering soaking it in a tub before installing

Is this stupid lol View attachment 68694

I wouldn’t soak it. Find a good metal/titanium cleaner and use that. Idk if adams metal cleaner and polish works on titanium. But if it does it would be super high quality

I read for cleaning titanium wd40, and a rag works pretty decent. I'll google that cleaner, too

The soaking would be more for carbon deposits on the inside.

It's not like it's clogged or anything. It's just more like I have the opportunity to clean it out well now before installing it.

I'll admit I'm hesitant to soak it too now as well. Hence, this post

Honestly, man, I'm waiting for someone to tell me I'm an idiot and also why I'm an idiot . Other than the fact that my gf will probably kill me. Bc I was considering putting it in the tub

Maybe the water would interact with the packing in a negative way? I don't forsee rust or any other reaction happening with stainless or titanium for a 24hr soak. I include stainless in this because I don't know what materials the actual muffler is comprised of. All the piping is obviously titanium

At the very least, I will polish the outside with some sort of cleaner

Here are the results lol. I talked to both cobb and invidia.

Cobb recommended wd40 as a cleaner and also said that getting the insulation in the mufflers wet would cause problems.
so, I cleaned it up with wd40

There was also a dent in the exhausts here. (not the cleaned picture)

I tried to 3d print inserts for the muffler ends and pressurize the muffler with a compressor (with the intent of heating the dented area after). Unfortunately, I was unable to get a good seal and was unable to pressurize the muffler. I ended up just heating up the dent and hammering it out

carbon isn't goin to dissolve in the tub. Don't know what would, but if you want to try to get loose stuff out use a hose from one end up high, like with the hose on a ladder. You can flip it and do it few times in each direction. That said I not sure I'd do it . . .
