Greetings everyone. After a year of having my Subie and doing the "driver mod" and learning all about these cars, I finally settled on my first modifications and did them. So, I figure it's time to make a Member's Journal here on IWSTI. Of course, I'm still learning, so bear with me as I learn all the in's and outs of tuning, suspension,

Backstory:

Up until about a year ago, the only cars I had had were Hondas/Acuras, having owned an Acura Integra, a Honda Civic, and 2 Honda Preludes. If requested, I can throw a couple pictures up of my previous cars. Last year, I was finally financially able to buy my "reasonable dream car:" this 2013 Subaru WRX STi Sedan in World Rally Blue. I bought her brand new back in October of 2013. Over the last year, I've put 23,000 miles on her. Until recently, the only "mods" she had were the SPT Exhaust and Short throw shifter that I opted for at the dealer. I've gone on way too many road trips to count with it(it does awesome), and have just been learning all I can about Subaru's, the Boxer engine, the AWD system, SI-Drive, DCCD, etc etc etc.

Goals For the Build:

Touge-Spec.

Build one of the best cars in the area for handling curvy mountain roads and the track. She is now a track/mountain driving only car and is no longer my daily!

Fun pictures and pictures of mods as they were installed to follow in subsequent posts.

Re: GV-2013 WRB STi Touge Build "Sammie"

I'm thinking about doing a straight trade of my stock wheels for these:

They're Gramiite Reps, but the guy who wants to trade with me can't remember the name of them. What's everyone's thoughts on them? Also, what might stock 18inch 5 split-spoke Subaru wheels be worth to someone? I know Subaru would charge an arm and a leg like they do for everything else, but what would a reasonable buyer be willing to pay for them?

Congrats on the car and start of your journal!

Not sure what the wheels are, maybe rotas of some sort but i dont really pay much attention to them. I'd probably hang onto the stock wheels instead of trading for reps, wait until you can get something legit. Depends on your motivation, desired setup, budget, etc but you'd hate to trade and then find out the reps are in bad shape (out of round) or they crack, etc. take your time, dont rush into a wheel swap. what about tires? Also consider that if you're going to do anything to the suspension, you should do that before wheels (or at the same time if well researched).

I see you're from Alpharetta, did you ever get to see Rob Sutton's car WRX when he had it? How about his CTS-V? That is someone in your own town that would be an incredible resource for you if you get to know him. He's on here too with a build thread for his V.

Thanks for checking out and replying! I did actually see the wheels in person, and there are no bends, cracks, etc etc. For the moment, the car will be a daily driver, and so legit wheels is something I really don't want to get right now. If I was to get legit wheels, like Volks or something and I hit a curb, I'd beat myself up for the next month. Lol. If I don't trade for these, I'll connive to pursue some Enkei Tuning T6S's. They're thick black 6 spoke wheels and really what I'm looking for.

I saw Rob's WRX once at our monthly Caffeine and Octane meet late last year, and then I saw his CTS at a dinner meet a few months ago. The WRXAtlanta community has been nothing but incredibly awesome and a very beneficial resource to me. Ive only spoken to Rob once personally, but I've also had longer conversations with Mike at TopSpeed and some other seasoned Subaru vets, and those have all been really enlightening. Lol.

Re: GV-2013 WRB STi Touge Build "Sammie"

HUGE UPDATE here. This past weekend, I spent everyday working on my car installing some mods and doing some maintenance. First up was: Friday, I changed my oil for another round of Rotella T6. Then, with the help of a friend who had a drill, I installed my Front lip and gave her a yellow stuff Eco Auto Clean Wash.

Saturday: The folks at TougeFighter hooked me up with a great deal on Whiteline 24mm Adjustable Front Sways, Whiteline 22mm Adjustable Sway Bar, along with a set of Hella Supertones, and a black and red Cobb Knob to replace my current Blox one. The Shift Knob is apparently on back order, so it'll be a minute before I get it. Once I do I'll throw pictures up. So Saturday I went over and Dana installed the Sways and Hellas, and did a Hella job on both. While it was in the air, I figured it was time to rotate the tires, so I did that while he was finishing up my rear sway bar(The rear sway bar is no easy task on the GV Sedans, perhaps made worse by the SPT Exhaust I have). Anyway, here are some pictures:

Thanks for checking my Sloooooow Touge build out!

The Cobb Knob got here sometime in the last two days. Anyway, here's it and a much better shot of the lip and hellas.

If anyone knows anyone looking for a weighted shift knob, let me know :)

Mate,

Which front lip did you buy and how is the quality and fit? Looking to purchase one myself!

The lip looks like a PU Replica STi front lip. I would have gone with the real one, but based on several freinds' experiences with how easily they break, I went with a replica that I found on a local for sale group from one of my friends. The quality and fit was great. Obviously, it's not as nice looking as the actual STi, obviously, but it's pretty close!

Re: GV-2013 WRB STi Touge Build "Sammie"

I got the 30K service done a few days ago. While I was at AllPro, I had them install anti-lift kit and my end links while they were at it. Man, it's a completely different car! I love it. All the rattling doesn't bother me because I've had nothing but stiff riding cars. If you're used to smooth-ish and your STi is your daily, I definitely don't recommend this mod.

Next, I found a killer deal on one of these that I just couldn't pass up.

I selected the Stage 1 93 Oct. Map, and it's been great. I haven't ragged on it toooo much :D. It should have come stock like that. Stupid CA and their emissions :p

Lastly, I bought front LED switchback turn signals, and had a hell of a time getting them in because I ended up dropping one in the headlight bucket :/ Anyway... Here they are:

Unfortunately, with my clear projectors, they don't match up in color with my headlights. I'll look into finding some that do, but I don't know how much variation is out there with a product like that.

Another picture:

Definitely a fun couple of weeks with my car. I'm looking forward to spring mountain runs even more!

Thanks for checking out my Touge-spec build, as always!
