Grinding / rubbing sounds???

Hi everyone!!!

I have an 05 wrx and it makes some sort of grinding sound coming from the front end...

This sounds like two pieces of metal rubbing each other and happens in all gears...

Doe not crunch when selecting gears and doesnt seem to have any power loss...

Car is almost stock with only muffler, 19 inch wheels and possible aftermarket clutch...

Noise happens;
•when coasting in gear and I apply accelerator (even if I just touch it faintly)
•when coasting in neutral
•when coasting in gear with clutch engaged

Noise doesn't happen;
•on idle and I do the above
•when coasting in gear (with foot off all pedals)

Car has had oil and filter changed, gearbox oil changed with no chunks of metal on magnet...

Has anyone had the exact same symptoms???

I'm having the same issue. However after doing some searching it is related to the fluid change. Try another gear fluid (extra-s, the cocktail, etc). It should remedy your issue.

Thanks for your input...

So you had the exact same symptoms???

Did you fix it by changing to different oil???

I think I used semi synthetic oil...
Fluid was the last thing that was messed with right? :) I would definitely start there good sir.

I haven't tried it yet myself but like I said, after some searching a fluid change to another brand worked out for most people. Worst case is the front diff is toast or something else drivetrain related. I doubt that though unless you beat the piss out of your car. I'll let you know when/if my issue is resolved. Good luck!
