Awesome thread, I was just talking about motor mounts amongst friends yesterday. Cool to know I can leave radiator/ sways intact all I need to disconnect is the pitch stop mount and CAI from frame of the car. How much does the block need to be raised, how much clearance do i need? Thanks guys, I may end up doing this after I get my sway bars.
I raised the block till the stud cleared the sub-frame + half an inch.

nice write up, hope i made the right call on mounts. i wanted a hard mount and i ordered TS mounts without looking at others first. one site says 70A poly and another says 75A. all i know is my TS pitch stop that said 75A from the same site that said the MM was 75A really isnt that hard :( i see the tigworks are 80A so now im in buyers remorse.

My engine is sitting too far forward by 1/4", how can I move it back to drop into the slots?
It's in the guide:

If you find the studs are too far back and won't align with the slots in the subframe as you lower the engine, here's a trick. Lay under the driver side, but be sure to keep your hands nice and clear of any pinch areas. Have the motor lifted so the studs are just slightly above the subframe with your buddy operating the release. Stick the breaker bar between the driver's side manifold and the subframe and pry the engine forward. Once it's roughly aligned, tell your buddy to VERY SLOWLY lower the engine. Everything should go together fine.
Except in this case just find a similar spot between the subframe and clutch housing or similar component. It shouldn't take much.

That is exactly what happened to me.

I lowered the engine till the mount's stud is just a hair above the crossmember. Then, use a pry bar between the tranny and tranny cross member. While pulling the prybar, I was pushing upwards on the downpipe and passenger side exhaust manifold with my knee. Then move over and do something similar for the other side.

Eventually it moved into place.

nevermind, its a wrx thing. checking the 09+ wrx and sti manual only the wrx uses this mount. the sti is 2 piece.

who here has done them on an 11? do the sti's come with the bracket? i was under the impression the older cars needed to buy the bracket not the new GR cars. kinda pissed i have to spend more money and remove the header to get them in and out!

There should be enough clearance to get any sized hand in there from the rear, with the motor raised.
I do remember I had to use two interlocked box wrenches, like Sabre suggest as well, on the passenger side at one point because nothing I had would reach with enough leverage.
