OK, so I got the call from my dealer last night (Sales Manager). Silver / silver waiting for me. Wants $40775! I guess I'm now number two on his list and he 'assures' me that number one paid that price. I've had my deposit down for ages now on the understanding that markup would be between $2K - $4K but would honor the same deal as Irvine (who called me two days ago and told me that folks on the waiting list would be at MSRP). So I'm pi$$ed and not sure what to do now except wait until Irvine comes through.

Yeah, and tell them that they can stop breathing so that USEFULL people can use that air.

Hey, can we blindfold these dealers, tie a rope around their necks, stuff two pounds of candy in the arses and use them as pinatas...???

I need some batting practice, anyway...

*shaking his head*

Conehead, don't pay ANYTHING over$2000 of the MSRP. If they already have options on there, then there's nothing you can do. If they haven't added them yet then tell them not to and that you'll pay $1000 over whatever the sticker says. See where they go from there.

Well I guess all's well that ends well! Finally ended up negotiating a MUCH better deal with them (perhaps after they realized they weren't going to get anyone to pay $10K over!). Signed papers last night and will pick up my baby Saturday. They even let me take if for a spin (after signing the papaers :)). Holy Cow she's fast!! I'll post picks soon.

I may be missing something here and I know how limited production is but our local dealer here in West Michigan delivered all 3 of their first cars this week at MSRP and not one penny more (one was mine). They will receive two more cars next week that will also sell at MSRP. Heck, they even sold me the options I wanted at cost and threw in some floor mats.

Was I just lucky to find a reputable dealer or just lucky to live in the Mid-West where fewer people know or understand this car’s significance?

For those of you living in CA it might be less expensive to purchase your car out of state and have it transported than pay some of the markups I have been hearing about....

If you don't mind me asking (and you anwering :)), what did you pay? I opted for a lease and got an "Agreed upon value of the vehicle" of $35196. Did I get screwed? Murley/Lojack or Conehead, can you reply  I will cancel (I signed the lease yesterday, but I have 10 weeks before the car gets here from the factory and Nebraska state law gives me four days to cancel a sale) and go with you, Murley, if I can get a better deal. I bought from Beardmore in Bellevue, NE.

shanelenagh, What options did the car have? It is possibel to see an STi sell for that price with options.

My car was $30995 plus destination so $31545. I added the auto-dimming rearview mirror for $120.

No, it turns out I was sodomized like a Boston altar-boy. I had my uncle who is a used car salesman look at it and he couldn't stop laughing. I stopped payment on the check and called the dealership and told them to cancel the order for some reasons that I don't want to go into on this forum. My uncle is going to try to help me find a better deal. If I cannot, then I might reconsider Beardmore again (crazy as that sounds -- even after cleaning up the blood from my asshole this morning) or a dealer on this forum.

There is a thread for posting these kinds of dealers. Here is the link.

I ended up paying just under $36K (included LoJack and the keyless entry). From what I've heard, this is fairly typical in SoCal. I'm sure I could have got a better deal but I was prepared to pay it to get one of the first here. I have to say, it's worth every penny. I'm still running in the engine but it's one hell of a car!
