2002 wrx 2003 wrx 2003 sti

I know that we do this 100 times a week in every forum that discusses the release of a new car. Sometimes there are circumstances that preclude you from following your original plans. And sometimes you just don't think straight when your mind focuses on one thing.

With that intro I have to say that I am thinking of trading my 2000 GTI VR6 for a WRX wagon instead of waiting for an STi (sedan) to come Stateside. The reason, my new daughter makes travelling with 2 doors a pain, and my wife and I never know who is going to have her and who is going to be driving what car. (The other vehicle is a 1999 Pathfinder.)

My desire, obviously, is to hear some news that the STi is coming soon. I could wait. The problem is that with no news how long can I wait? I don't really have the desire to buy a WRX and "modding it to kill the STi". Please don't let the thread degrade into that argument. What I need is realistic ideas or advice.

Financially now should be a good time to buy a 2002 WRX with th 2003's on the way. The other thing is that if they do bring the STi I could always buy it later.

My deal is that my last 2 cars left me wanting more. 1996 BMW 318ti no performance. 2000 GTI too soft. I know I am fickle, and even if I could get the STi, I would probably want something else in a couple of years, but it wouldn't be the same as buying the WRX and 6 months later saying I shoulda waited for the STi now that its here.

Sorry for the rant, its just that I have been off the board for about 2 weeks (for the birth) and my perspective on life seems a bit different...

Yeah, I have that article and others, and I reread them all the time. But I don't think the STi would leave me wanting more, where as the WRX might.

I think you've hit the nail squarely on the head, buddy.

I just gave in, and couldn't be happier. when the sti rolls around, it will be here more than just that first year. i can wait to pick one up later, give the aftermarket more time to fine tune mods for the usdm, hopefully carb exempt ones too. (in cali) We gave in and got a WRBP wagon on the 18th, got 600 over invoice, 6.44% for 5 years, got 5k for my trade, (95 accord v6, 105k mi.) leaving me with $398/month, not to shabby. I got it with no options, paid 22,648 saw invoice slip @ 22,048. The only thing i would have done differently now, would be to get the armrest ext, definitly!!, and finance in a turbo timer. Franks subaru in irvine gave me a price of 225 installed for either a greddy or an apexi TT. 225 would have raised my pymnt about 4 dollars. this waiting thing is getting old quick, I probably wait longer than i have to. When the STi rolls around, my wife can take over the wagon, and I'll take a sedan! probably a year or two after it's introduced. I don't have to get the first one, I just want to make the one i get one of the best! oh yeah, I also have two boys, 6&3 to lug around in it. they love it too.

Mod site for WRX\STI

yeah, I just turned 25, my wife is barely 22, and to top it all off, she bought us the car and is bringing home the bacon so i can go to school full time. It'll pay off for her when i become a MD, and she never has to work again. I love that she loves the WRX/STi, and other racing, hi performance cars. We also plan to do some SCCA stuff soon with the new car. She's excited to do some racing! ----Just goes to show you single guys that there are some good one's out there.

Hmmmm, maybe should have posted this in the "best wife" section in off topics forum.... :D
