Does anyone know (or suspect) any significant changes in the WRX between the 2003 and 2004 model years? I along with everyone else here wants an STi but I'm not sure I want to (or even can) afford it when it comes. Therefore, I'm wondering whether I should get a current 2002/2003 model or wait for 2004+ model year.

Thoughts?

You guys just want me to get the WRX so there will be more STi's for you...

Actually, SnowmanFX has a pretty good sounding plan there.. And in a couple years, Subaru might start bumping up the performance of the STi over what it is the first year.
The other bonus is that I get to start having fun now, not in 9-12 months. :D

Nate,
That's what I would do..buy a WRX now and then get an STi later. One thing though is that most people will not pay a lot for a used sports car like that. I know I wouldn't, just one thing to keep in mind.

I think I will probably get my deposit back and head for a different plan. We need a vehicle now so we are probablly going with a 4runner now then in a year+ buy either a STi or something fun like the S2000.

There's always the possibility that the STi won't be here and no major new features to the wrx. Then you waited and worried for nothing.

...by the way. Do you guys think SOA every reads this forum?

Get it now! Had my WRX since Sept. and love every minute of it. Some good arguments were made which fit my plan exactly. We do not know for sure when it will come, but mark-ups will be insane. The prices they are getting for the 350z are insane (not to mention what the S2000 still gets!) and I would imagine the STi will be the same the first year or so. And they will keep on improving so when I buy mine it will be around 300hp :D

ANONAM.

BTW, the Toyota 4Runner will be redesigned for MY03 also. The current layout is around 6-8 years old
What do you think it will look like? I like the current design, and if the new design looks like the seqoia then maybe I'll stick with the current look...it looks good. Any word on this?

MY03 4Runner wil be available this October. Some countries will call it a Toyota Landcruiser.

-Shares same platform as upcoming Lexus GX470.
-Much bigger than current model.
-New more powerful V-6.
-Better off road capabilities than Sequoia.
-MY04 might get a V-8. The Lexus get the high torque V-8 now.
-Push buttom rear hatch release, (you open it the rest of the way).
-Trick rear hatch closing feature like the new VW Phaeton.
-Navagation and kick ass stereo.
-No 3rd row seat, tire stored within cabin. Lexus gets 3rd seat, tire is outside.

Is it going to replace the current Landcruiser? I hope not. The 4Runner is directed at a different market. Essentially, it replaced the truck that the Landcruiser was back in the 70's and early 80's. It's much more functional and utilitarian, which is why I like it.

We'll see what happens, I guess.

Well Nate i just went and bought my new 2002 WRX Today and i am very satisfied with it. It is a Ball to drive and the handling is great. Now i am going to start paying extra and get as much payed off as possible so that when i trade it in for a STI i will have a good down payment.

Don't wait unless you have a nice dependable car now.

Well, that's part of the problem I'm having making a decision actually. I currently have a 2000 Dodge Dakota. It's still pretty reliable and still a few months from being paid off. There are two main reasons I want to get a different vehicle (WRX/STi).
One, I don't use the truck as a truck very often. That is, 95% of the time I'm not hauling anything with it. So I might as well have something that gets a little better gas mileage.
Two, I've always wanted a sporty car and now it's more attainable for me now than ever before. Regardless of whether I finish paying off my Dakota, I can trade it in and knock a pretty significant chunk off the price of a Subaru.
The WRX/STi meets the first point, easily meets the second point and since I live in Colorado the AWD would be very nice in the winter.

What that all means is that it would be great to have a WRX now and be able to enjoy it, but if I can keep my wallet in my pants for another year, I can get the STi.
Decisions, decisions.... :-?

She said they were out of '02 models already! But she quoted a price of $23,900 on a WR blue manual sedan with a spoiler...only a 5 hundred more than the '02 price quoted on carsdirect...

Anyway, I asked her about the STi and she said she had called port and that it was coming out August next year as the '04 model! Have any of you heard this? I would think that there would be some kind of announcement or you guys would've mentioned something. Anyway, she said that they were waiting for the EVO VII launch so they would know what competition they were facing. I still don't wanna wait another year...my thinking is like most of you guys, get it now, and if the STi does in fact come out next year, I can always trade in my '03.

Well, I've decided to wait until the STi comes out. There are just way too man WRX's around. This morning on my way to work (5 miles) I saw no less than 8 of them. The extra 9-12 months of waiting will give me time to save up a good sized down payment. ... And a better car. 8)

Finally got my car...wow that first gear is tight! It's everything I expected and more, but can't wait for the STi!

Dealer again confirmed (and you all certainly know this) that they were getting the STi next year around this time, first batch at port will be coming in as sold so it's coming real soon...also got a glimpse at the Baja, the dealership must've just gotten them because they weren't there when I went 3 weeks ago.

:D
