How do the stock tires handle the cold?

The General German Automobile Association not only tested winter tires just last month, they tested them in the STi size of 225/45 R 17 V. Note that lower scores are better. Basically, it looks like all of the tires are pretty close in performance. Unfortunately, the French tire appears to be the best choice. Rats. :x

Here's the computerized translation:
The report on high-speed (to 240 km/h) tires in the 225/45 R 17 V size is less pleasing. Not that their performance both on snow and ice is generally bad. But nearly everything was problematic due to its width and the low cross section design: On wet roads a water wedge, the wheel forms already swims up and the vehicle becomes so uncontrollable at quite moderate speeds under the tire. Our judgement for the Testkandidtaten could not read therefore differently: less recommendable, thus with the restriction of the increased aquaplaning danger. If you must drive this tire size according to registration certificate in the winter, you should reduce your speed then on wet roads at least. If narrower alternatives (e.g. a 20ër-Breite) are permitted, these would be the first choice. Because you know: In the German traffic filled discharge zones are unfortunately goods in short supply with gravel.
