After reading several posts here, and especially the "Isn't the Sti a Muscle car?" thread, I've come to a conclusion:

- There are those that like america made muscle cars
- There are those that like "riced" out import cars

.... and there are people like us, who like both and chose the STi as our "import" love. I find it quite comforting in my choice to leave the ranks of "american car owners" and join the ranks of "imports" with my STi purchase. It seems to be the only car where I've gone to Forum and read about people who like both. It seems that most other makes/models of imports you are either one or the other, but not having a love for both.

You guys all rock (cuz you all own STi's) :)

fact of life. people are going to like differant things. if that was'nt the way it is we'd all be driving something called a CAR manufactured by CAR CO. and they'd all look exactly the same and we'd have to find our cars by a special code written on the hood. they'd all have 4 cylinders and exactly the same power rating, no mods allowed.

I definitely wasn't into US muscle cars in my younger years, but I have since grown to seriously appreciate them for what they are. My dad is into that, and I think it's cool that we share the common bond of totally impractical cars even when our tastes are so different.

anyone seen this turbo upgrade?

I get a lot more respect from a whole different crowd in my Sti then I did over say my S2000. The whole group of "torque" guys respect it.

I like american cars. If they released the Escort rs2000 Cosworth in the states I would have bought one. But they didn't so I got a WRX. Then they released the focus. If it was an AWD two liter turbo I would have bought one. But they didn't so I bought the STi. They won't sell as many Mustangs if you could tune a focus to keep up with a Cobra. I like all cars for different reasons, but I am partial to awd. Thank god subaru brought a turbo awd to the states. --Sin52

p.s. I still miss my Lancia Delta HF Integrale. Like a four door chevette on steroids.........

I don't really like when people refer to imports as "Rice".

The STi isn't rice.

300 hp stock isn't rice.

Thanks.

Rice.... mice.... hOt rOd....impOrt.....fast is fast no matter who manufactures it. Any gearhead who disagrees is not really a gearhead. Heck fire, theres lawnmowers on alcohol that are fast and any gearhead can appreciate them. The face of modding is expanding and I for one say bring them all on cuz they are all good in their own way!

Thanks.

this is how i consider rice....
when you got a big loud as hell farting coffee can exhaust and...
you have stickers all over your car.

To add to the above....
- You think you can beat any car on the road
- Your hood is painted black so that it looks like carbonfiber
- You run on steel wheels on the front and 18" on the rear during summer months for more "traction"
And I could keep going....

IF you know what you are doing the stock steel wheels with a low profile slick are a speed trick at the drags. It effectively lowers your final drive. If you are driving around on the street for the look, or for the advantage in street racing, Rice is a proper definition in my opinion.

What about all those of us who don't take into account where a car is made, and what secret message it sends out to people who are sensitive about such things on the roads, etc? I mean, I would never consider myself to belong to some group only because of the car I own.

i really don't care where the STi was built. i don't drive around thinking"hey, i'm in a Japanese car." the fact is the STi is Awesome and nothing in the American car line-up was comparable. i have respect for anyone who has taken the time to understand the inner workings of the car they drive, be it a Subaru, or a Honda or a guy in his Dodge SRT-4. country of origin is'nt something i look at when i think about cars anymore. i do however have something against BMW's and VW"S. i'm not sure what it is, but those are the two makes that i most often find myself tailgated by.

Country of origin is pretty much moot now. Some cars are totally manufactured in one place but come on, if you want American V8 RWD, you could get a Toyota truck. Parts are made all over, shipped and assembled all over. I guess it's because of where the company has its headquarters and originated from...

I respect fast cars with cool owners/drivers. It can be a Mustang or a Civic...doesn't matter to me.
