Hey there, my name is Alex and I am extremely fortunate to own a car of this nature. My first car was a brand new 2011 VW Jetta in white.

Being a passionate car enthusiast who attended the track every week to watch, I wanted to have a car that I could drive around and turn heads, but also take to the track...and that's when I made it a priority to budget my money to be able to afford the car in roughly 3 years. So countless car restoration {I do more specialized car detailing that involves strictly paint corrections} jobs which roughly take 20+ hours worth of work, and working for a few summers allowed me to afford this car. I am super excited to present to you my baby Gabriella...enjoy!

Being a professional restorer/detailer, I told the dealership not to wash the car or remove any of the PDI tape, etc. I did go with the rust-proofing by the dealership, but other than that, I drove the car with all the protective tape on the outside, and plastic wrap on the entire interior still on :D

Here are a list of the parts/mods that I've done... Enjoy!
***Red Lettering means upcoming mods
***Blue Lettering means part is on the way/ready to be installed
***Green Lettering means part is sold and is off the car

Re: Alex's 2013 ST-Eye-Popping Build Thread - Looking for GReddy SE Catback

Enjoy the new car dude!

I strongly suggest you have a look at the Cobb AP OTS maps or get a ProTune if you consider tracking the car!!

Other than that, you seem to know exactly where you are going with that car ;)

To be honest Simon, I am still a student in my 2nd year at University of Toronto, and I would like to keep the warranty intact, so once that is done, I will be tracking the car. As for now, I'm trying to find a Greddy SE Catback which will be my next purchase (I'm budgeting so I can make someone a really good offer).

Re: Alex's 2013 ST-Eye-Popping Build Thread

Those tail lights are sharp! I didn't like the clear tail lights they did for the '12 and up (I believe, my '11 is red). But the way you did those looks good. How did you get the color border on there? Something that could be done from home?

Re: Alex's 2013 ST-Eye-Popping Build Thread

My best friend's girlfriend has some of the best attention to detail. What we did was we took off the tail lights, wet sanded them which left them quite dull, then his gf perfectly taped the middle part, which allowed us to safely paint around that area without getting any in that area. We applied 3 heavy coats of Duplicolor Metalcast Anodized Red Automotive Paint, waited for each coat to dry for roughly 15 minutes, and then clear coated them afterwards with a few coats.
You can definitely do it yourself at home, actually we did it in my garage, just make sure your garage is well-ventilated (open up the garage doors, etc.) and make sure to lay some tarps down on the ground to prevent overspray. :D
Have fun DIYing your tails ;)

~

Re: Alex's 2013 ST-Eye-Popping Build Thread

I just updated my build thread with a list of parts that are planned for the upcoming year! On the way currently is a brand new Varis Half Carbon Diffuser with the Side Extensions courtesy of Nextmod in Markham (suburb in Toronto) Be sure to check them out, hopefully everything goes accordingly and smoothly! I will be sure to post a review of my experience with Nextmod here, as well as plenty of pictures of the final product.

My car is currently sitting pretty in storage at the moment... here are some pics...

For those interested in the cover, it is a CoverCraft Dustop. I purchased it from a shop here called Northern Performance in Burlington, Ontario. It is a custom-made cover specifically for the 2013 hatchback STi; The quality of the cover is superb!

Re: Alex's 2013 ST-Eye-Popping Build Thread

I miss her so much!

Can't April come sooner!!

Some definite upcoming plans:

1) Redoing Headlights to look exactly like this...
08+ WRX/STI Headlight Split | DIY Painting | Baking - NASIOC
Courtesy of a local member on TSC (Duvanator)

2) Redoing Taillights to look exactly like this...

From far-away, my current tail-lights look similar to the work above, however they are in no-way of the same workmanship, precision, and detail as the work of fellow IWSTI member Nexson. So this job will be done Courtesy of Nexson! If you haven't seen his work, here's a link to his thread... How to Properly Paint Tails, Pics. It's clear that he definitely enjoys and takes pride in the work he does, and I'm really happy to work with him on this project of mine!

3) JDM Power Folding Mirrors w/ Auto Folding Module.
Thanks to fellow member Lithiumus (Garrick) recommendation, I have consulted with fellow member Monkiboy (Marcos) to order the JDM folding mirrors with the auto folding module. I am really excited to get this from Marcos, and will have Garrick install this for me!

Expect a full review on each of these upcoming modifications!

Thanks for looking

Since when did STI's become GT2s that are only meant to be driven in warm weather? Take that cover off and rip it down some twisties

Even if I had a 996tt or a GTR it would have snow tires for winter.

people enjoyed your fkn car you spent all that money on!

Re: Alex's 2013 ST-Eye-Popping Build Thread

Figure I would jump on Alex's thread! Looking forward to working on your car, and you working on my car!

As some of you know, Toronto has gone through some pretty cold (-9F/-22C) standing temps with some melting and refreezing and the mirrors performed like a champ! I drive my family around all the time so I'm constantly taking the kids to swimming, snowboarding, hockey, you name it... so I'm always in and out of parking lots usually filled with mini-vans, SUVs, etc and it's wonderful to be able to close the mirrors when the spot is tight to keep the space in between the cars open.

I've parked in an underground long term (a few days) for a conference and I found a spot by the wall and I parked literally inches away so no one could get behind the car while the other side was exposed to lighting and cameras. (it was single spots along a wall).

Finally, my main reason I purchased the JDM mirrors is to be able to fold my mirrors as I reverse in between my houses to my backyard where my garage is located. I need the mirrors out to aim, but there are 2 spots where there is a hose faucet and a power line that comes out of the house where I need to close the mirrors and open when I'm clear. I need to be able to do this in the drivers' seat. Before I had the JDM power mirrors, I'd either climb over to the passenger seat and pull the mirror closed or try to drive around it which meant snaking the car around when I've only got inches to spare.

Re: Alex's 2013 ST-Eye-Popping Build Thread

While I whole heartedly agree... there are some limits where bodywork damage is not worth the minimal enjoyment of driving in the winter! Both the 996tt and GTR are high enough off the pavement, I would definitely drive those as well during the winter... in fact, that would be a selling point to convince my wife that they fall in the "family car" category! ;)

Re: Alex's 2013 ST-Eye-Popping Build Thread

Honestly, I made this decision because I want my car to be completely mint, and I am very scared of what the salt will do to my car, especially because I do plan to keep this car for a long time! I definitely respect the constructive criticism though!

UPDATE! Re: Alex's 2013 ST-Eye-Popping Build Thread

Today was my 21st birthday, and after an awesome day, I have a few upcoming surprises for my car come April...

1) JDM Power Folding Mirrors w/Auto-Fold Module purchased from Marcos (IWSTI member: "Monkiboy") Really excited to receive this and have these on my car come April. Also, my friend Garrick (IWSTI member: "Lithiumus") will be installing this awesome part for me. If you haven't already checked out his in depth thread for installing the Power Folding Mirrors, have a look here...
http://www.iwsti.com/forums/gr-interior/264629-jdm-power-folding-mirror-install.html

2) This second mod is inspired by Quincy (IWSTI member: "canadianwrxsti"). Quincy purchased quite a few things, but out of all of the awesome things purchased, the one that really caught my eye was the ARC Alternator Cover. It really is a beautiful piece in the pictures, and I'm sure in person it is even nicer, and with that, I found a listing of one being sold on NASIOC by member "MaD1521" whose name is Marcus. Marcus was such a pleasure to deal with for this purchase. Through interaction over PMing, I immediately could tell that I was dealing with someone who was very professional, sincere, and a down-to-earth guy! It was a very simple and smooth process. Check out his NASIOC page for more rare and awesome parts that he is selling...here's the link:
NASIOC - Search Results

Once again, special thanks to Garrick and Marcos for the Mirrors...expect a write-up on the entire process; as well, a very special thanks to Marcus for selling me this awesome part, and a smooth transaction, I can proudly say that out of the transaction, I most importantly made a top-notch friend in the process...cheers buddy!
