"As for price, in Japan, the bad-tempered street machine starts at about $26,000, while in the United Kingdom it’s more like $40,000. Our sources say the U.S. price will come in somewhere just under the U.K. price. For 2004, the first full year, Subaru projects 4000 sales in North America."

Hope this doesn't happen. I'll have to think long and hard if I'm going to pay just under 40 grand.

You have nothing to worry about. There is no way in hell the STi will cost almost double of what the WRX is.

Judging by other markets I predict the STi to cost around US $31,000 or CAN $43-45,000.

Just wait until the Detroit Auto Show and of course September 27/28th when we'll see the new front end.

It might cost 40K US in Britain, but remember it only costs 26K US in Japan and right at 30K US in Austrailia. I'm trying to think of other countries to relate this to. Don't worry, Subaru isn't dumb enough to put a 40K price tag on it. The dealers wont let them, they have to make their $ too :p Personally, I won't buy one if they are much over 30
