I just talked to my rep which I put a deposit a month ago. He said the nearby dealer is charging 5k over!! And that they will also charge a fee over MSRP. So I am just going somewhere else. I am number 1 on the list but its not worth it. Going somewhere else which is offereing me MSRP and number 3! So we shall see.

This is very true. I have tryed several of the dealers here in Miami, and the want 5k over MSRP. And the person in Mastro told me that they are not chargin a penny over MSRP. The bad thing is that their list is huge like 30 people.

If and when I get rid of my WRX for an STi, I would definitely go to Mastro in Tampa. I got my WRX at Bob Dance, and i got a darn good deal on it but, from what I hear about Mastro it would be worth the hour and change drive from Orlando! Please don't pay over MSRP! They make enough money on these cars anyway, you are just putting a couple grand in somebodys pockets when you pay over MSRP. Good luck hunting!

If anyone has given a deposit (refundable or not) and got a receipt from a dealer stating the STi will be sold at MSRP with no market adjustment (my pre-order states that) it is a contract. If a dealer backs out of that for whatever reason (other that he could not get the car) it appears to me its a breach of a contract and you would have legal rights to enforce it. Each state has its laws (and there are also Federal ones), so I recommend that if you are in a situation like this, go and consult with a good lawyer. Most don't charge a fee for initial advise! If no one would pay over MSRP, this price gouging would not exist. Years ago I passed on buying a Harley because of "dealer adjustments" and refuse to play that dealers game (3 year wait list but if you give me $5K I'll get your bike next month  !!!) Good luck, Evil One

I just got off the phone with Bill Bryan Imports in Orlando. I had placed an order, with a $1000 deposit, at the beginning of March. The 'sales order' never specified MSRP. The sales order was little more than what appeared to be a generic Subaru code sheet with the words WRX STi Blue Gold wheels written on it. I should have known better then.

After today's phone conversation with the sales manager, the story has changed. Now they want to add a $349 dealer fee to the price. This was never discussed at the time I placed the deposit, and it wasn't until I spoke with the sales manager today (to ask for a letter stating MSRP; no more, no less) that the dealer fee was ever mentioned.

The staff at Bill Bryan claims that they have still not received the MSRP information from SoA. They refuse to tell me what number I am on the list. They claim to have no information on how many STi's will be coming in or when they will begin arriving.

I think I may be flying to Iowa to go see Mr. Murley, as soon as I get my deposit back. :)

Geckert, that is what is call a documentation fee. Every dealer will have it but most charge WAYYYYY more than they should for it. It is always calculated in with the fees and taxes. Ours here is only $72.50 and it is what we pay the people that do all of the paperwork with. Most places will charge from $200 to as much as $500. Everyone out there make sure that your dealers aren't gonna mark up the "Doc. Fee" like that on you. I think a lot of you will find them trying to do that. I wouldn't pay anything over $100!!!

This is actually an additional fee they are charging. The doc fee I was ready for. This new line item, the Dealer's Fee, of $349 never came up until yesterday.

I think I will get my money's worth, though. From time to time, I pay $125 to have my current WRX detailed. I will just insist that that the car be delivered to me from the dealer looking like it came from a detailing shop rather than accept the half-a**ed cleaning job I've settled for in the past. Anyone want to place bets on how many times I have to send the car back?

Guys it is true I have tried the 3 dealers here in Miami and they say 35k, they are crazy there is no way that I am paying that much if I can murley to help out, or the person at Mastro. I have contacted Mastro thought the list is long. And the dealers are calling Mastro crazy cause he is charging MSRP. Please let me know if you guys hear of a good deal around the area(Florida). Looking foward to getting together when we all have our Sti's I personally have been waiting 2 years for mine.

Mr Murley,
Been watching your posts since late Feb. Have enjoyed your insight. Am new to forum and hope to be new to Subaru. Have a couple of questions:
1. Placed a deposit with a dealer 1st week of Feb '03, on an STi. Should I be concerned if this is May 24 and I have yet to be contacted for color and option choices?
2. This dealer(salesman) does not keep me informed on the status of my deposit (read order). But when I stopped in last week he showed me the confirmation order for the #1 Sti order at the store. Should I be concerned at this stage of the game?
3. This store still does not have any '04 WRX's or any other '04 model. They seem to be a decent sized operation. Hyundi, Kia, Volkswagen and Subaru. Other stores in the area have >2 '04's. Should I be concerned?

I work for one of the former big three and this is starting to drive me bonkers not being able to punch my order in and determine the status.
What suggestions do you have for my next move? The salesman claims he will be contacting me in the near furture for my preferences, but my opinion is "take notes" NOW! Advise me of the confirmation when you receive it!

After my last conversation with Bill Bryan, I could not wait any longer. My spot in line had changed from 4 to 5 to 7 over the past few weeks, with no real reason. They had also started out saying that they expected 2 to 3 STi's per allocation run. They were a little overconfident. It turns out that they are only getting one STi in the first allocation, and then MAYBE one per month after that.

So I went to a local Mitsubishi dealer on May 13 and bought an Evo for MSRP. I should be getting my STi deposit back really soon. It's a shame that my personal Subaru dealership experience was not what I had dhoped it would be.
