this is from the sti specs. what does *fixed* mean, other than the obvious? are their *variable* position calipers? like maybe ones that spin with the rotor? thanks.

I believe that Fixed means that the caliper is one solid piece that is bolted to the spindle. In a non fixed or floating, the back half of the caliper is bolted to the spindle but the front half slides along pins when the piston applies braking force.

ah! i get it. so i image most are the unfixed or floating kind. at least they're that way on my se-r and nx2000. thanks for the explanation.

You got it. Only most of your more expensive or higher performing braking systems employ a "fixed" caliper mount.
