I'm pretty much sold on my new set of tires being 225/45/17 Falken Azenis Rt615's, but I'm a little concerned about how fast they'll wear out.

About how many miles are you guys getting out of them?

Why not go wider? :)
I've thought about it..
I see a lot of you guys going with the 245's
Do you stick with the 45 or go with a 40 profile?

Does it make a big difference going with a 245 rather than a 225, like the stock ones are?

To be honest I enjoy going in a straight line fast more so than auto-x style driving, so I figured the stock size would be better :)

if thats the case, try the falken azenis st115, they have the channels that are a bit better for straight line, still grip well and are predictable around turns. mine have lasted me 35k, and i can probably still get another 5-10k. i drive pretty hard on turns too.

RT615 is a great tire, less response than 070 similar wear, better ride, same or better grip, half the price. If you aren't going to autocross it makes no sense to get them though. Also, in 245 they only come in 45 profile. Only a problem if you don't have a little neg camber in the front.

I'm still on stockers, so I can't comment out of experience...but when I go for new tires, I'd probably jump up to 245/40-17 is my guess.

Stock tire diameter = 24.97 inches (225/45-17)
245/45-17 = 25.68 inches (difference from stock: 0.71 in)
245/40-17 = 24.72 inches (difference from stock: -0.25 in)

I dunno if it's better to go bigger or smaller aspect ratio, but smaller ratio has less difference from stock :notsure:

(BTW, 255/40-17 is the closest to stock: 25.03 inches diameter, 0.06 in difference) :)

I went with the 235's for an 18" rim and have had them on for ~7,000 miles... plenty of tread left.

I'll be lucky to get 5000 miles out of my rt-615s. I've got about 4300 on them right now and the rears are just about toast. I auto-x them...

you must drive the HELL out of those tires... I have seen my friends on his m3.. they are doing fire 7K miles and a track day or 3 ;) My friend tracks his mustang on them and he uses them for more than 10k.

i had almost 7K on my stockers and tracked them to hell and still have some life on them.

The 225 RT615 isn't going to be as wide as the RE070s. Even though the Falkens run wide, they're still not as wide as the RE070s. I wish they made a 245/40 in the RT615 but the only have 235/40 which is a we bit small especially with STI gearing, and the 245/45. As for the straight line performance, the 245/45 will add a little bit of rotational inertia/mass too which would hurt performance. To what degree, I don't dunno but if you're were an autoxer they'd be a great choice since the greater diameter would help gearing.

Have you considered the Kooks RS2? They come in a 245/40.

Well I definitly don't want something that'll hurt straight line performance..

Why wouldn't they be as wide as the stock tires?
225/45/17 is a 225/45/17, right? :)
What makes them different?

the manufacturer and what kind of tire it is.
falken's run wide, i think the 245 falken is 9.6 overall length the 225 are smaller obviously.

keep this in mind, if you want straight line performance make sure the tire is lighter...the 245/45 are heavy...27-28 lbs each.

They both say 8.9 is their section width. Does that mean they are the same width?
