Just got an email from my ImprezaWRXSTi.com approved MSRP dealer about the available options.....email follows.....

Good Morning Rob
This is Chris Larson at Jim Miller Subaru. I do have the options that are available on the 2004 WRX STi. I have them listed below:

*Center armrest extention $145
*Auto dimming mirror/compass $183
*Security System Upgrade $230
*Wheel locks $39

Please let me know if you wish to add any of these options. I have been allocated my 1st STi and yours is next in line.

Thanks
Chris Larson

Hope that isn't old news.....

I was not aware of any factory or port installed options. I thought all options available were dealer installed. Murley, can you shed some light on this??

Out of those listed though, my choices would be:

Center Armrest Extension (oh so nice for long trips)
AutoDimming Mirror (Bye-Bye Glare)
Wheel Locks (To protect not only the wheels/tires but the brakes!!)

I don't think it has ever been a problem. I do know that without it there is Nothing there to rest your arm on. I just got done shifting a WRX and it wasn't in the way at all.

Card and Driver: June issue's STi vs. Evo8

my dealer just called me, and told me that the turbo gauge for the STI is a limited option, something like only 37 available on a first come first serve basis...It's something like 283 bucks or something like that...

thought to throw that in...it supposed to be on the left hand side of the steering column.

Yeah, the placment on the 03MY was on the righthand side of the column(?) because of the gauge setup. This year (04MY) the gauge goes on the lefthand side because of the NEW guages. I don't think that it's a port option, though. I could see it being a dealer option, though.

I got the call from my dealer and just returned it to finalize everything. He did tell me also that the boost gauge is limited to 37, first come first serve. He did not think it was anything special though. I don't know why they made it limited then. It would be nice if it somehow was STi specific, like if it matched the factory gauges in the STi.

One thing my guy told me. These options are installed when the car is built. He figured in order to save money, otherwise you will have to pay a parts dept markup or cost and also labor to then install it.

the options mentioned above are not installed at the factory, they are installed at port. They are not even really options,Subaru list them as accessories.Pretty much the standard fare for most Impreza's actually.Other than the boost gauge of course.

I've never had a problem with the center armrest being in the way when shifting, and it IS great for long trips...

Only problem I have with it is a keep breaking the damn latch... The last one I got replaced I just took the latch off rather than break it... I'll put it back on before I sell...

For long trips, the arm rest extension is great. Nice place to lay the arm. Without it I found myself looking for a comfortable spot to position my right arm. If you've ever driven a car without a center console, then you know what I'm talking about.

That is strange about the boost gauge.

Any word on the optional sound system? What will it cost and what's it like? If it's similar to something currently offered by Subaru, I'd like to check one out at my local dealer before committing to an aftermarket setup.

What do you guys think about the alarm? Does anyone know what it is? Is it worth $230 or am I better off getting something aftermarket?

I thought about this for a while and decided to go with it. Otherwise it would have to be the main priority after I get the car. I won't have time to do it right away so to at least have a factory one for now is better than nothing. I am also seriously considering the Intertrak system and with that you need an alarm. Since the Intertrak system does all the fancy work all I need is a basic alarm to work with it. Plus you can't beat how the factory alarm works with everything, nothing spliced in or rigged. It is just a standard Subaru alarm. If it is like the one my 98 Legacy came with then it has the basic vibration type detection, starter kill, etc.
