it seems that the general consensus of the reviewers of these cars is that the evo kicks sti butt as a performance car in terms of handling and other race characteristics but that the sti is the better all purpose street car. since i am an old fart family man, i will go with the sti as my have fun on the way to work car.

Your analysis is pretty simple and pretty out of perspective. This issue has been discussed many MANY times on the forum. I invite you to search the forum for other STi-EVO comparos. Yes, the STi is considered the better "street" car, but I promise you it isn't a Volvo. The cars are so close to each other in every respect that most magazines are picking a winner.....well....because they have to. "Kicking butt" is not the term usually used for less than a second difference on road courses.

It's like this, if they preform the same, then you look at other factors to make your decision.

Interior quality, build quality, saftey ratings, reliability, resale values of mfgr....

There is more to a vehicle then just the 1/4 times...

Which in fact the STi does beat the EVO in the 1/4 times
If you are buying either of these cars for 1/4 mile performance you are wasting your money.
If you only used this car for 1/4 it would be a waste. But there is so much potential power that the Sti will kill so many cars at the drag strip. 2.5L and only 14.5 psi = Extremely DEtuned. If you were to raise the boost to the EVO's 19 psi boost level, you would have some serious torque as long as we increased the right amount of fuel. Road race and drag race this car, because I believe it's at home at both tracks.
