Hey guys, just got back from looking at the Evo 8, I gotta say I'm happy I checked up on the Subaru. For 32K it appears that this car will outrun most anything you will come across in day to day traffic not to mention hanging with the likes of 911's, M3's and Vettes. I had an 01' Vette that posted 13.3 with 328rwhp. A Subaru posting low 13's is gonna be hard on some egos :D

I think the interior of the STi is much nicer than the EVO. I was also surprised to find the EVO did not have cruise control. Little disappointed the STi does not have a power roof. I would, like most, toss the factory deck within days of delivery so Subaru is saving some resources by deleting the factory deck.

Not getting on a list but will certainly check it out and maybe this fall join your ranks. Wicked cool car............... a "10" on the fun to drive-o-meter?

M3 is a 10, I hope STi is up there..
Gonna have ta argue with you on that one. I have driven an E46 M3 for a total of about a week. I even flogged one at gingerman for about 2 hours. I also had one on order with a January delivery but i cancelled it for 2 reasons. I found out the STI was coming and the STI will beat it in outright speed and handling. And it will do it for 20k less. The other reason is because E46 M3's have a little nasty habit called BLOWN ENGINES!!!!!

Now back when i was ordering my M3(in august) BMW still wasn't admitting there was even a problem but now i see that they do. Thank God because they were blaming the failure on the drivers and making some of em pay 15k for another engine. Anyways even if the engines weren't blowing up the M3 is still not a 10. It is a great car but here are the problems. Low Torque, too expensive for what you get, TOO DAMN HEAVY, its handling is way below the bar set by the E36 M3 and I hated the clutch. The clutch was a mean mother hair trigger engaging son of a gun! Now it is a great car and its a "sexy to die for looking coupe" with a super silky smooth Inline 6 cyl(my favorite kind of engine by the way)that sounds like heaven but its not a 10. I give it an 8.5 score. Now the STI won't beat it in the looks or status symbol dept. but it will in everything else i'm hoping! Peace!!

I have to agree with X, I could afford a high dollar car 911, M3, another Vette, in fact my wife is going to get a new Cayenne in a few months. The bottom line is that the STi is going to be a much more entertaining car to drive. It will undoubtedly be competitive with the likes of the M3 and the 911 for a fraction of the cost, including insurance and maintenance. To me the point of owning a 911 or an M3 has a lot to do with making an appearance. In day to day driving, a 300hp turbo 4cyl with AWD is going to get around in traffic as fast as anything you can buy with the extreme exceptions of Vipers, Z06's, Porsche TT's.

Secondly, where I would hesitate to thrash an 85K 911 or 60K M3, the STi would see no mercy.

Third, where I would probably not fool around with the sound system in a high dollar car, the STi is RWA to accept a thundering pro-audio system.

Lastly, none of my clients will think they are overpaying me.

The EVOVIII and the STI are both AWESOME cars (especially for the $$$). I don't think any of us can evo bash until we test drive the car. Plus, most who have driven the EVO have nothing but praise for it.
