I know this is a tired topic but I just got my SCC in the mail. They claim the US spec Evo will weigh 3,263 pounds (not exactly svelt) and do 0-60 in 5.2 and 13.5 1/4 mile. That's not quite was I was expecting...

On the other hand, the STi I have been told by some in the know folks that the STi will weigh about 100lb more than the WRX. The WRX curb weight is 3085, so that puts the 2.5L engine weghing maybe 100lbs less than the Evo?

Wow....I was under the impression the EVO was going to be pretty slim. What does a standard Lancer weigh? Their website says the OZ edition with the manual is 2701 lbs. Add in the extra intercooler and AWD system weight.....I dunno if that weights 500 lbs though.

I'd question SCC on that number....unless someone has seen it from another source.

The defining characteristic of the EVO are it's computer controlled driving aids, the AYC and so forth. Something which has been deleted from the US version. Ergo, what's being offered here is an AWD Lancer, not an EVO. The people who brought over the Euro spec EVO 7 have the real thing. The version showing up in the Mitsi showrooms has been neutered.

And yet they're still claiming very close to 1G lateral accel. Plus a 2.0 at 271/273. Not too shabby in my book. The Evo will rock, nonetheless. And I think it will excel in many areas that the WRX is lacking: tranny strength, body roll, etc.

But it's still no STi... :) I just hope the STi can come close to the Evo's handling numbers on a track. The Subarus have always been a little softer & looser.

Very very true. When you read writeups about the WRX vs. EVO VII, the claims were always "The EVO's electronics tranny controls made all the difference in the world." Now....the thing that tipped the scales is gone.

If I was an EVO owner somewhere else in the world, I'd be pissed that the name has been given to this car in the US. Yes, amazing car....EVO....eh, not quite. How bout Super Lancer?

Biggee-sized Lancer?!
:D

No, the Evo will still be a tough car, but I've always hated the comments about the Evo being SOOOOO much better than the STi. Sure, the 5 and 6 especially were better than the STis, but the Evo7 w/o electronic gizmos is certainly on a more level playing field as the STi.

Word alfredobob, lancersupreme. Don't forget mitsu's world-wide reputation for building stuff that falls apart too. My point was to compare weights but AYC and stuff makes a difference too.

My guess is just under 3200lbs curb weight for the STi

didn't the evo IV and V not have the ayc? and i heard those were great cars, i don't think the ayc etc. defines the evo, they were great cars before that.
No, 4,5,6,and 7 all had AYC. Some of the reason that 5 and 6 were so good cars is b/c they were smaller and more aggressive. The 7 was kind of long and less aggressive compared to previous models. Check out these links for more history etc:

adding AWD to a Audi adds about 250 pounds. Audi AWD drive is a bit more complex so it might not add as much wait for the Evo. Plus like you said intercool, plus turbo and plumbing. Also lancer comes with something like 14" rims:). bumping that up to 17" add a lot of weight. Also they had to modify the front of the car significantly to pass crash tests.
