Apparently this is what happened to me here in the last few days. Here's a time line.

- last weekend - picked car up and drove home

- thursday night - took car in to get tinted and clear bra applied. The car was left inside overnight. Trip ODO was set so that any 'foul play' would be evident.

- Friday evening - picked car up. looks great. Take off....rattle rattle....hmm....RATTLE RATTLE....WT........RRRRRAAAATTTTTTLLEEEEEE.

Long story short....this is what I found under the rear end.

Has anyone ever heard of a bushing just popping itself right out? How could this be possible under ANY conditions, let alone just driving the car around the building to tint it. The people there are great and I know they didn't do anything to it (only ticked the trip ODO 1/10). Took it to the dealer and the parts have been ordered....won't be in till Wednesday or so.

In the meantime, here's something just to get rid of that horrible rattle that seems to resonate through the whole car.

Thanks

Wow -yea -this exact thing happened to me. I got my car on July 11. It was a blue/gold, but I had wanted a blue/silver. So the dealer swapped my wheels with a black one that had silver wheels and wanted gold.

Well, long story short, I test drove the car before I purchased it w/ the gold wheels. Then I got the car, drove it off the lot with the silver wheels, only to immediatly notice a loud noise coming from the back left strut area. Took it back to the dealer, and their lead mechanic put the car on the lift and bingo. Every mechanic at the dealer was totally stunned. Then they went out to the parking lot and found my sway bar bushing in the parking lot??? Well they put it back on, and no problem since at my current 900 miles in the car (im close!!). My dealer did have a new one in their parts dept. - they said its the same one the outback has.

Are these installed poorly??

Repainting Silver Dash Pieces

WTF....so there IS a history here? That's just amazing.....

At least I'm not alone. My dealer went ahead and ordered both the bushing and the bracket since by the time I get the bushing, the bracket will probably be pretty dinged up.

at least losing this bushing is not only real obvious, but it really doesn't do any damage to have missing for a short time. It sure was scary to hear that sound on a brand new car w/ less than 20 miles on it though!

wow good thinking on someone's part. i'm getting an occasional, mysterious clunk from the rear. looks like i'd better crawl under there.

Well....actually I insisted on the bracket as well. I'm not about to find out just how much damage a swinging sway bar can do in a few days!

Yeah....take a look, but I promise you this sound was hideous....it sounded like someone was taking a hammer to your gas tank. Not only do you notice it, but everyone within 100 ft of the car start looking at you funny.

It really is pretty loud. Believe me, I didnt get far from the dealer when I heard it! The mech that looked at my car didn't believe I had a problem at first (before I took him for a ride accross the parking lot!) He accused me of having the DCCD on 505/50 lock and driving it hard. What a butthead
