I've owned a 2002 STi here in Australia for almost a year now and love it! You guys in the States are in for a real treat when you finally get yours.
Anyway... I've made some minor modifications, exhaust, BOV, and K&N Typhoon Filter. The car goes great except I'm hampered by the low torque range that this car is infamous for. I've been reading articles on your forum about re-mappin the standard ECU and this seems like the best option. There are a couple of performance houses here in oz that have successfully done this but are charging an arm and a leg for the install.

I'm not too up on how all of it works and was wondering if it is simply a new software install in the standard ECU. If so, are these maps available on disk to simply install via a PC or should I just bite the bullet and pay the $1500 AUD to have this work done. I've seen Dyno's of the re-mapped ECU and at the wheels the car is pulling 196kw. Nice huh?[/quote][/b]

I did the conversion and got 262 hp...and I thought, that's not impressive at all. Until I re-read your post and noted "at the wheels" very nice :) any idea what it is at the crank?

Sorry. You guys work in bhp. I'll do conversions next time. At the flywheel/crank your looking at around 255kw which is 341 bhp. One car that this has been tested on is a MY02 STi with the only modification being an exhaust. So back to my original question - can I simply get my hands on a copy/download of this revised ECU software and install via a PC.

Or... am I able to copy the software from an STi that's already had this work done to it and install it on mine. Sorry if this sounds dumb, i'm not too up on ECU's just yet. Surley ECU's function just the same as a PC (i.e. with a processor) and software is easily installed/upgraded.

Honestly, for that kind of power I would bite the bullet and have it done by a shop.

I know that with mapping on an ECU..things can get pretty sensitive. For the kind of increase I think it would be well worth the money.

dash blackout

yeah i think i will.

The company which has developed these upgraded engine maps is called ECUTEK. http://www.ecutek.com and are based in the UK.

Check out their on-road dyno testing software, that simply needs a PC laptop with WIN 98 to run!!

Middleton Rally Team here in Australia is the No.1 performance house for anything Subaru. They have a worldwide mail order that some of you might be interested in. http://www.mrtrally.com.au

They are also experts in how ECUTEK systems are configured so i'll just go to them.

Cheerz,
