I was just wondering how many people have put down more than 1 deposit for the STi? I live in the DC area and there are 3 types of dealers here:

1. Those that take the deposit, have a waiting list and will call people in the respective order

2. The 2nd type are the ones that take the deposit for which you get the "privilege" of the call when cars get here i.e they will start calling all people that have put down the deposit at the same time.

3. The last type are simply the dealers that are not accetping any deposits, since the MSRP has not been set yet.

I have put down a deposit at a "Type 1" dealer, but was thinking of putting another one at "Type 2" The Type 1 gives me a fixed spot in the waiting list, but the Type 2 gives me an option (based on probability) to get the car sooner. Since they will call people on the same day, there is chance I get the car during the 1-2 month it comes out. Basically it will come down to who gets to the dealer faster.

Has anyone done something like that? Just wondering........

well, sort of. i put my name down at a type 3 dealer..and then put a deposit down on a type 1 dealer.

i'm going with the type 1 dealer.

Yes, I have a deposit ($1000) at a Type 1 dealer and I'm on the list at a Type 3 dealer. I'm thinking maybe the Type 3's are waiting to see how much they can profit by gouging the buyers on the price, that's why they aren't taking deposts now.

There's actually a dealer in my area (Wilton Subaru, Wilton CT) that is openly saying it will be charging "market" price for the car, meaning whatever the market will bear. It's even on their website! No thank you.

I have one $500 deposit at a type 1. I also have $500 down with a type 4 dealer.

Type 4 - The salesmanager reminds of a guy who used to sell bootlegged cigarettes behind the cotton candy booth at a travelling carnival.

Plus I have a $500 deposit at a Mits dealer on an EVO VIII. If Subaru tells me it will be next fall I will take a close look at the EVO. I am getting old and cannot wait for these importers for ever.
