Okay, I'm finally getting around to installing my Walbro this week. I was going to do it tonight but I was concerned over the fuel filter since my car is getting up there in miles.

After doing some searching, it appears Subaru only wants to sell you the complete fuel pump assembly for $550 and won't sell just the filter part! I don't think so.

I came across a guy that took out the filter part in the large brass/plastic thing.
Looks like this on the left:

And installed an 02-03 WRX filter and bracket in the engine bay.

I just converted mine over to a wrx fuel filter

I removed the fuelfilter from the cartridge put it back togehter then I removed tha magnet from the pressure line and stuck the stock wrx fuel filter in its place

I dont have the part numbers but all you need is a 02-03 WRX fuel filter and the bracket.

you go from this http://www.thehaltermans.com/fuelfilter1.jpg

All you do is unsrew the fuel filter cartridge on the fuel pump assy and remove the filter element and put it back together.

this will walk you through the fuel filter for the most part.

Has anyone here tried this yet? Seams more logical to have a fuel filter where you can get to it. The only thing I'm worried about is finding a new fuel sock for the bottom of the fuel pump. Any ideas that would be close to the stock fuel sock?

I am pretty sure I saw somebody mention that the part was replaceable but you had to be a little creative in finding the suitable 'refill' for it.
Looks like the FXT Forester fuel filter is the same as the STI. Its listed as a separate item.

Part #42072 FE020

Funny how they list it for that car but not the STi...

I'll have to call the dealer just to see how much they want for it.

I got mine installed tonight. No cutting but I did remove the STi filter. I have read this some kind of swirl port but after looking inside, it looked like a regular filter canister and I don't see how this would help any if I removed the actual filter and left the canister in there.

I just took the filter out completely and used some FI hose.

Installing WRX or aftermarket filter in the front tomorrow.

They do list the fuel filter seperately for the STi. The part # is 42072 FE020 for 04-06 and 42072 FE030 for 07 models. It fits the EJ255 WRX also.

Sorry, my number was wrong then. I'll fix it. Called the dealer and the price for that filter is $88! Think I'll just stick the 02 WRX filter. ($15)

Edit:
Picked up the bracket and band clamp for the WRX filter. Got it at my local salvage yard off a older Legacy for a buck! :)

Where'd you get that number? Because none of the parts engines I have available can find it.
I just got the new EPC update on CD. It looks like all the '07 info is on there also.

The company I work for provides OEM parts data to aftermarket companies. We have all EPC's and fiche for any vehicle sold in the USA from 1970 up (except Ferrari and Lambo).
