Alright, I need some advice here.

The Zx2 has gone downhill fast. I dont want to dump a bunch of cash into something that I will be trading in on the STi in June (hopefully). However, I am not sure if it will make it that long. My dilema is whether I should buy a WRX now. I know I will be disapointed when the STi is about, but I can put some of that 'extra' into modifying the WRX. I know its not going to match the STi, but I am sort of a bind now.

Anybody have any thoughts?

Wait man! The STI is going to be a totally different animal than the WRX. Plus you will have the advantage of a full warranty from the factory! If the ZX2 blows, get a beater for the time being! :D

Wait...

That "extra" you speak about..save it. Put it towards a bigger down payment.

If you can't afford the STi..get the WRX..it'll be about 100 times better than the ZX2. I know b/c my wife had a ZX2.

Affording it isn't the problem. I just don't want to have to use the money I have saved up for a down payment to fix the POS or buy a beater. I would rather get what I could for the car now (trade in) if I could. At the same time, I don't want to settle for the WRX.

Don't settle on it. If your car is to the point of destruction unless you put money into it..sell it and get yourself a good reliable old car (read here: RELIABLE). Look into an older model civic, accord, etc for the time being.

If the ZX2 is ok for the next 3-4 months...wait and then buy the STi.

buy a beater think about it if you modify the wrx you are gonna spend almost the same you would on the sti, but you are getting less for your money i can't even tell you the sacrafices i have made because i want to pay for the sti in cash. what i have is worse than a beater.

i am having the same problem

i bought an '89 civic hatch a while back for similar reasons. spent ~$2000 and put just under 60K miles on it (it had almost 200K miles when i sold it). one of the best decisions i've made as far as cars go. i got a fair amount out of it too. and when i did get the "cool car" i was wanting, i used the civic in crappy weather or when i was going to be parking in a bad part of town.

imagine this

yup...I drive a 90 Accord and it runs well. I can't say its the best, fastest, coolest, etc car, but its cheap, reliable, and I can take it anywhere w/o feeling like its going to be stolen.

Hey Zx2->STi, look for a 1987-89 Acura Legend. This has to be one of the best old reliable cars out there, they got a v6, and you can even find the in 5 speeds. Prolly cost you $2,000 to $4,000 depending on miles and condition. Don't!!! give up hope on the STi.

why doesn't anyone ever suggest getting an old 2.5 RS as a "beater"?
I dunno..a bit expensive and you don't quite know how others have treated it with its AWD system and tranny (re: WRX tranny).

It would be a good beater though b/c then when you get done driving it you could try out rallycross!!! :D
