Hi Guys,
Off the bat, Im new to this forum and STi's in general so trying to learn as much as I can while I look for a STi hatch to purchase.
Im currently looking at a 2011 WRX STi hatch with about 64,600 miles being sold for $18,750. Mods detailed are:
Cobb stage 1 ECU tune
Perrin Exhaust
Perrin Sway bar(front and rear)
Perrin Strut Bar(front)
Cobb Short Shifter
Wear and tear: Rear right wheel has a few spots of curb rash and some peeling clear coat - slight scratch rear left bumper - very small windshield chip(already filled in).....
With all that in mind, the main reason I am here is that it has a rebuilt title due to being side swiped according the previous owners, auto check, and carfax. I believe it has went through 3 owners, 2 in the last year, bought at auction, repaired by the previous owner, sold due to lack of use to the current owner, whom is also selling due to lack of use. That alone seems a bit strange, but both claim the car is in excellent condition and have provided an inspection report from midas that recommended tire replacement due to dry rot and the power steering pump. The pump was replaced by the current owner, the tires were not. In that time, the car was also transported from NM to PA to CA, so its moved around quite a bit, but on a truck I believe. The current title is listed as "reconstructed" so I believe it was inspected after repair, but still need to obtain that paperwork.
At this point, I have as much information as I can get without checking it out personally. As I am not in the same state as the current owner, I will be sending a 3rd party inspector to look it over and verify the actual condition. I know that generally people on this forum advise everyone to "run for the hills" in regard to salvage or rebuilt titles, but was hoping to get some objective opinions as there could be a few decent cases out there. Im particularly interested in what the price should be as $18750 seems way to high for a rebuilt title. NADA lists average condition at $15,600, so subtracting 20-40%, I would assume $9,360 - $12,480, but you guys would know better. Additionally, I am particularly interested in STi specific issues or things to have checked by the inspection to make sure the mechanics and engine are indeed in good condition. Appreciate the feedback ahead of time. Thank you.
