On the lists at the dealers, are you pre-ordering the car? And if so are there dealer options ie... body kits, special exhaust...etc that you can purchase. Or are you just getting the first shot at the stock car?

Thanks

I put down $200 here in Minneapolis. It was just to get a pre-order placed. As far as options the dealer I spoke to said the options such as color and body style would be available closer to the actual arrival of the car. I was under the impression that the STI was pretty much loaded. From what I have seen there would not be a need for much else.

My check is not going to be cashed, just used to show Subaru a “good faith” request to purchase a new car. Supposedly this will allow me to have the best shot at getting a hold of the STI when they are available next year. The dealer I went to here was Morrie's Subaru in Minnetonka, Minnesota. I talked to Scott Putnam ( http://www.subaru.net )the Fleet Sales Manager. He explained to me that he attended the Tokyo auto show this past October and found out first hand that indeed the STI will be available at the end of 2002. Think about it, why would the STI be available in every major car market other than the US. It would be totally unbelievable to think Subaru would pass up the US market. For me it is a gamble worth taking.

I put down a deposit that also was not cashed yet and will not be cashed until 8-15 weeks before I get my STi.

If any of you are willing to come to Colorado to pick it up, give me an email and I will put you in contact with the dealer where I am buying.

BTW, on my order under price it does say MSRP.

So if they delear tells you (once you give them your deposit) they're going to sell you
the STi at MSRP is there a way they can go back on that and sell it for more? B/C I am kind of hesitant in putting down a deposit for that reason.

thx

On the issue of options I think there might be alot mabye for the STi. I don't know if any of you looked at the site I linked to about the 3d sti sim but that was the subaru of japan site and you were able to add all kinds of options to the sti with that. I dont know if that means those options will come to North America or not but since there were so many upgrades available for Japan's STi maybe there will be here too.

JJ should be right on the MSRP thing - get 'em to put it in writing and you should be fine if they've signed it.

My best guess is there won't be too many options - the car'll come pretty loaded. If they're only gonna import ~1700 of them, they won't have too many things to choose from because of manufacturing costs. I wouldn't be really surprised if the options list consisted of "What color do you want?" - and even those will prolly be limited to 4 or so.

Ya, I guess if the car is a limited release it prolly wont have many options if any. If anyone got theirs would they add kits etc. to it or keep it stock so it will keep it's value. Does anyone think the car's value will be good because it's very limited release? I do.

Lets just say this. If they only release 1700 STI's here theres gonna be more collectors buying them than enthusiasts. It will be a really good depreciation value for that car. If it even will have any depreciation at all. It wouldnt surprise me to see ppl paying original MSRP sticker on a used STI with 20K miles if theres only 1700 of them for the first year.

Are you obligated to buy the car or does the downpayment merely grant a spot for a car and the right of first refusal?
Right of first refusal. If you don't want the car, the dealer should refund your money. Just ask them to put that in the purchase agreement if they ask for a deposit.

It would be a very bad PR move for the dealer not to give you back your money if you decide you don't want it.

Just an update: Scott Putnam is now at Bloomington Subaru. When I ordered mine he said we will be getting the HID lighting, The rally style wing (same as prodrive?) and all the regular WRX options are still available like floor mats and stuff. I was told I will receive a call 2 months prior to delivery to confirm any options. He seemed fairly confident from his dealings with Subaru of Japanj that we will be able to take delivery sometime around October. Go to http://www.subaru.net and see some of the pics from the Tokyo auto show....very cool.
