I put down $200 here in Minneapolis. It was just to get a pre-order placed. As far as options the dealer I spoke to said the options such as color and body style would be available closer to the actual arrival of the car. I was under the impression that the STI was pretty much loaded. From what I have seen there would not be a need for much else.
My check is not going to be cashed, just used to show Subaru a “good faith” request to purchase a new car. Supposedly this will allow me to have the best shot at getting a hold of the STI when they are available next year. The dealer I went to here was Morrie's Subaru in Minnetonka, Minnesota. I talked to Scott Putnam (
http://www.subaru.net )the Fleet Sales Manager. He explained to me that he attended the Tokyo auto show this past October and found out first hand that indeed the STI will be available at the end of 2002. Think about it, why would the STI be available in every major car market other than the US. It would be totally unbelievable to think Subaru would pass up the US market. For me it is a gamble worth taking.
