so what sort of dealer markups are you folks seeing in ca?
how many of you are getting them at msrp? and where?

I just tried picking up a silver/silver from Big Valley in Van Nuys and they were determined to stick with their $4k markup. plus they had installed their own "premium" stereo system and I'm sure were overpricing that too.

I'm going to wheel and deal some more in the morning, but if I can't get them down to msrp I'll just go somewhere else. I'm in no hurry.

oh, and I did not have a deposit with them or my name on a list. anyone in the same situation get theirs for msrp?

I think that you are not only in a tough spot but in the tough are of the country to try MSRP without a preorder. Most of the dealers charging over MSRP are anticipating the customer that faintly knows of the STi and knows the faint vaule therin but yet doesn't know enough to understand that the markup will fade over time and that there are dealers out there..., like ME..., that aren't ripping anyone off... :)

That's how they all do it. Steal from the rich to give to the dealer....;)

I'm new to STI forum! I'm looking to buy STI at MSRP.
I called up most of LA and all of them are pretty much charging over MSRP. But it seems like they are not selling many, since all of them had couple in stock and wanted sell $4k over msrp to me.
Has anyone bought at MSRP? Just curious...

hmmm... just got off the phone with them... they've come down a bit, but not a lot. they're very commited to their price. I think I'll just walk and wait for another, but as usual I'm worried.

damn, I hate this. I got very pissed off last night realizing that the only thing that was keeping me from having that car in my driveway already, was greedy dealers. grrr...

Video: STi outruns Z06, Cobra & Lightning on 1/8

When I was looking at 04 WRX's, I asked the dealers about the STi. Curiously, they both said there was no waiting list and they'd get theirs in about 2 weeks, and there will be a 4k markup.

Nathan, and fellow S. CA STi shoppers

I guess the dealer in the area (around LA) worked out some sort of deal that all of them would have 4k of mark up or so, because before they got the car most of them can't guarantee me of MSRP. Even Irvine Subaru cracked for MSRP after first 10 on the waiting list. ~~

Just recently I got a call from George of Big Valley of having a black STi available and asking for 38k before the tax and stuff. He was boasting of that SOA is only making 750 of them per year and so on. (yeah, I have to bear w/ all the BS.. ~~)

then I turn to Sierra Subaru asI heard some people pick their STi from them. I guess they have less mark up (1~2k) compare with others and initially they thrown in all the options that we can't customize of, but after I stated that I wouldn't mind to wait to see if the price will drop to at least MSRP and customizeble options, then things tend to become more negotiable.

But I would still wait around for more dealer to crack back to MSRP as I'm not in hurry (till Sept. at least). There are only so many people who would pay for the mark up, then after dealers have so many STi left in show room that can't sale out they will drop the price eventually. So, be patient if you aren't in hurry for any paticular reasons and wouldn't pay anything more than MSRP.

Peace

I got mine for $30,795, including $500 destination. It was totally stock though (no stereo, boost gauge, carbon fiber, etc.). Up until reading some of these forums, I thought I paid too much for the car. After reading some of these posts, it sounds like I got a hell of a deal! Of course, I live in Maine, not California, so I'm sure that had something to do with it. After I put in a stereo (Sony CDX-850 MP and Boston Acoustic NX67/FX4's), I figure the price of the car as $31,305. Still not too bad for a car that redefined performance in the United States!!
