in a sense, i guess i am.

but, what i am really saying is this car better be either cheap or a hell of a performer, because it certainly has no creature comforts.

how much would it take to at least allow the pass through. I know, they'll say it is to save 2 lbs, right?

I would like to be able to carry a snowboard without needing to put a rack on the car.

If you're really saying things like that, I don't know that you truly understand the car. The STi has always been a no frills street legal rally car. No leather, no sunroof....heck, no radio this time around!

This means you get as much performance as you'd get in cars that cost maybe twice as much. You're right, it wouldn't take much to add a pass through. But STi cares about performance and little else.

As for the snowboard.....the wing would make a perfect place to tie that sucker to!

glad i could do my part to promote a healthy debate.

i like that. I also dig the idea of using the wing to carry snowboards! time to bust with photoshop and see how rediculous this might look.

i am definitely interested in the car, and I appreciate no holds barred performance. But, in the end, we all have our own opinion on what sorts of compromises our ideal car should represent.

My perspective is this. I have a WRX and it is a bit too tame, especially compared to my 95 ///M3 that I traded in to get it. I have a deposit on the STi, and think I am going to get it, and live with the "blanks" (pass through included). But, I wish it had a few creature comforts. I can live without a sunroof. But, let's face it, sometimes we need to swing by Home Depot on the way back from the autocross session.

maximum performance or otherwise, it fear it is a "tokenism" to feel like we need to give up absolutely everything to get a car that will beat the Evo, etc. You know, like they are making the car all too spartan to impress us and our friends with just how "all business" this thing is.

I mean, I appreciate that many folks here will proudly think that they are driving a real rally car when they get their shiny new STi, but that is far from the case. It is the closest thing we can get, but still not the real thing.

So, it better have a damn cup holder. ;-)

pass through was a concern I had... many creature comforts are easier to add... stereo (most will add a aftermarket ne way) if this car is going to be a primary car things like that tend to be important... it all comes down to priorities!

Nod, so then you could fit more boards, although that would be pointless since the people you would be carrying them for wouldn't be able to ride with you anymore.... I guess you could always strap them to that huge-a wing. Or they could just sit on that park bench.

With a trunk pass-through you still would be able to have 3 passengers. You could carry 2 snowboards and 4 people. Add a 4-board capacity rack and you can haul people and their boards...and half of them could bring 2!

There's also a cutout or something if you look at the trunk in the STi...it looks like you could add a pass-through relatively easily without having to rip out the entire back seat.
