Hey everyone,

So currently looking for a new car and was looking at applewood originals which has plenty of JDM and modded cars. I was walking by and decided to walk through quickly to glance at some supras they have and an STI caught my attention, loved the car. It sounds amazing, picks up speed easily (took it for a test drive) and looks beautiful. It’s got 90k km on it and is priced at 27,850 CAD. I’ve heard some pretty unfortunate things about buying used/modded STIs and was wondering what you guys thought of the mod list and how tastefully modded it is as i haven’t looked into modifying subies too much. It does come with a lifetime engine warranty as applewood has a good coverage for their warranty but i wanted to know what you guys think. (I would be financing this vehicle as well)

Its seems like its well built to be honest. "Lifetime engine warranty" sounds real fishy to me. I would find out EXACTLY what that means and whats covered. Especially since this car does not really have an OEM engine at this point, if a failure were to happen, would they cover a rebuild?

Anytime someone is looking to buy a used STI, i will always recommend paying to have a prepurchase inspection and a compression and leakdown test done prior to purchase.

Mostly what Jay wrote, build seems "OK" but I'll add:

• most 2618 piston equipped blocks (most IAG block are) start loosing compression at lower milage than a stock engine.
• I beleive 380AWHP is low for a XTR3.5 - you could make almost as much with a 1.5xtr
• that, solid motor mounts and catch can make me wonder if this was a track car?

The big deal for a "non-subaru mechanic" including home mechanics is what shop will you use. Ideally would be a Subaru specialist shop, and at least a very good performance shop.
