You have to use an 8-10 bumper. If you like the new bumpers you need the bumper and the inner fenderwells iirc.

I have 2008 sti I need to replace the front bumper but I'm wondering if any sti bumper from 2008to2012 fits and does a sedan bumper fitt??

All bumpers from 2008-2014 fit, but here's the details:
2008-2010 fit with no modification
2011-2014 will fit, but you will need new fog light covers/housings, new wheel well liners, and a new grille to match
If you're looking for a drop in replacement, stick with 2008-2010.

I'm surprised that no one has said anything to Bryan yet. 3 posts, 2 thread starts, all info that can be searched. Why are we so nice?
Why are you guys saying you'll need new wheel liners? I've got a 2010 and did the 2011 conversion.... and just needed the bumper, grille, covers, and tow hook cover. My liners worked just fine.... ?
