are you planning on building your car and buying a bigger turbo? If not, it is a pointless waist of money...

ninja edit: in case you are not aware, the STi/WRX come with a Bypass Valve (BPV) from the factory, which performs the same task as a BOV with the exception of venting back into your intake rather than to the atmosphere.

most people on these boards consider the idea of a BOV on a stock car as ricer...
i just got my 05 sti 3 days ago and love it but i dont want to do anything that will hurt it. it has 177K on it all stock but the out side stuff. i do plan on doing alot of stuff to it just need time and money. so if not the bov can you point me to where i should start with the car
that all depends on what direction you want to go with the car. What are your plans for it? DD or track car? Do you want to go built motor and big turbo?

Personally, mine is a DD, with some occasional track/auto-x use, so my first goal was to get the suspension/brakes in order, as well as some more maintenance/reliability engine/drivetrain items. If that sounds like what you had in mind, check out the link to my journal in my signature for the direction i took...
the suspension/brakes i have done and i want it as a dd but if i see a car trying to race on street or track i want to put down
Your gonna wanna start with a cobb accessport and a downpipe then. Thatll run you about 900 to 1200 new depending if you wanna go catless or not
If its all stock on the power side of things and you are happy with the suspension the first step would be a stage 2 setup once you are sure all the maintenance items are up to date. Stage 2 will be a decent power improvement but with that much mileage on it you don't want to pushing things too much. Once you do that you can evaluate where to go from there.

His car has 177k miles, if he farts in it the engine will fail, nevermind if he mods it for power.

Save your money for the inevitable engine replacement. You said the suspension is done, but what is it? Hopefully it's not still on the original struts. I'd start with replacing suspension bushings as yours are undoubtedly in poor shape.

I was kind of thinking the same thing.
Lol so what you guys are saying is I should just save for a man for a motor with bigger pistons?
I want this car to last so what should I do just be soft dont do anything?
You don't need bigger pistons, or even forged ones. Your engine naturally goes thru wear and tear.
Oh, I'm definitely not saying that. Let it last however long it will. I'm just saying to have a contingency plan and money set aside for the inevitable.
So just let it blow up
Dude, just get a TBE (turbo back exhaust) air intake, tune and call it a day. You have to start somewhere, it sounds like you just want power more than anything else atm. Yes your motor IS going to go at some point, whether it'd be 500 miles from now or 25k you have a ton of miles man, mine blew up at 135k!! A good idea would be to save a little bit at a time for a new motor.
Your grammar hurts me.

I know I screwed up, typed it in a hurry! Unless you were talking about OP then so be it.

This. If you aren't doing a big turbo upgrade, then it's just going to be an extra sound on shifts. The BPV does just fine, and still makes a cool sound :D.
ok thank you guys i am talking to a guy about a new mottor he has and he wants 2k for it good deal he said its brand new tuned and all that good stuff

$2k ($1,800) is what new OEM blocks sell for. How much more is being asked completely installed?
