has anyone installed a BOV on their STi yet? i'm thinking thats the only mod i'll get besides an exhaust when i get mine.

will the BOV screw anything up? maybe mess up the ECU?
and does it void warranty?

oh ye.. my purpose of getting the BOV and exhaust is purely for sound... not performance. i think i'm gonna get enough of performance from the stock car alone.... i'm goin from a 2k1 civic to an STi.... very big jump =]

There really is no reason for a BOV unless you are running so much boost that the stock unit can't hold it. In addition, a BOV that is vented to atmos is asking for trouble....you will be running VERY rich while shifting. If you vent back to intake, you should be ok, but again....that doesn't give the huge sound the atmos vent does.

Search around....I know we just talked about this lately.

whats running rich mean? and what would end up happening when you run "too" rich? sorry i'm not that good with cars yet.

so basically if you get a BOV you need a boost controller? or can you have it purely for sound reasons? and what do you need with it so that it doesn't mess up everything else?

Rich means you are burning more fuel than needed in your Air/Fuel mixture. Lean is more air than fuel. Lean is definetly worse for your engine. Lean conditions will create detonation. If you get a BOV you will need you run the vented air back into the intake. There for you won't get the sound. Or you can be a ginnie pig and try it and let us know how your engine is running!

Rich and lean are air/fuel mixtures..not exactly what your car is burning. If you run rich, you end up just wasting fuel, lining the cylinder walls with the excess gas. Just not a smart idea to have too much gas in a cylinder.

Don't take offense to this, but I wouldn't be making changes like a BOV if you aren't familiar with terms like lean/rich. A turbo car is a very technical machine and even I am not going to go changing engine/turbo parts without someone with more experience saying that it's alright and worth doing.

Sound System Forum

Do a search and you'll find a thread where someone mentioned a "fake" BOV that makes only the sound but doesn't vent any air. I personally think it's kinda dumb and the money would be better spent on/saved towards a real performance mod. If all you want is the sound, why not just roll down your window and go, "pssh! pssh!" every time you're shifting?
