Re: BlueScooby's 06 STI - Fender Vents are Next!

Honestly I'm not a fan of Deka batteries anymore. A while back I bought a normal group 35 battery for my 2.5RS. I was told it was a sealed battery, but after autocrossing with it the battery spilled acid out of the vent ports and into the engine bay. It's the only battery I've ever had do that. I promptly removed it and replaced it with an Optima Redtop. I know Deka's are good batteries and I'm sure a Deka AGM will not have this problem, but I still steer clear of them.

Anyway I use a Battery Tender Jr. I have been using it for years and it works well. It will not charge a battery though, just maintain it. If the battery gets drained during use or if a tender isn't used all the time I would recommend something bigger that can push more amps if need be.

Re: BlueScooby's 06 STI - Fender Vents are Next!

For a while I was very interested in trying to do this method as well. I even went so far as to purchase a cheap random fender from a local club member and practice hacking it up... Unfortunately it didn't go so well. Since I've never worked in a body shop, or have body shop tools, I was not able to make any kind of very smooth bends in the metal and it looked quite crappy :( Being that this would be going on exterior body work that already has paint on it, I was extremely skeptical I could make it worthwhile. So I basically abandoned the idea until Singular released their vents and just sort of wound up with a set. haha Either way I'm excited about it, but I just can't seem to find time to work on it right now :(

Someone stuffed an LS into a Miata, haha. I've also seen a 4C in person, and though I love the looks, it's very tiny - Italian Elise basically.

Those vents look interesting. Looking forward to seeing how you do this. Definitely body color though...

Thanks!

Those are from the"Morrisville" C&C off airport blvd. first Saturday of the month. Here is also a Wake Forest one on the third Saturday (I think) and a Cary one near the Auto-Mall off Tryon rd. Not sure the date for that one though.

I believe they all have a dedicated FB page you can follow too.

Well that sucker is WAY harder to bend back that I realized... lets just say i jumped on it a few times (stopped before I broke my neck) and its only marginally less bent... :(

Added a banner on the windshield. Wasn't too hard to do and I think it came out pretty decent.

Got the battery installed as well :) the terminals I bought (shown in first pic) did not fit but a local club member came through with a set that does!

Yes, not as easy at it looks.
I had a Ferrari specialist shop to do it. The bill was...interesting.

I am very interested to see your side fender vents though.
I need more front downforce and the easiest was imo is to get the air out of bonnet and fender region as quick as possible. This will help cooling as well I guess.

Reverse scoop, more vents on bonnet and maybe fender vents.

Mo vents, Mo betta! haha

I have high hopes for these vents, although I won't probably see the same kind of results you would. Since the "top" of the wheel arch is the highest pressure zone of the wheel-well and the vents are a good size there is a lot of potential there for some good pressure relief.

you should also check out the hood/bonnet vents that Singular Motorsports makes (Jagar racing uses them). They are a good design and look like they will move a lot of air! I'm honestly tempted to replace my vents with a set of theirs, sans the center piece (because hood scoop). It would also make a more cohesive look with the fender vents which would be nice.

I have seen them.
One issue is my bonnet is a Varis dry carbon, $$ and ribbed from underneath.
Prefer not to ruin it.

Wonder if they can make the vents in sizes you want?

Also very interested to see how your fender vents will look like.

Re: BlueScooby's 06 STI - Fender Vents are Next!

Haven't had a lot of "garage time" recently, but I finally got in there to start working on the fender vent project... started small, with the fender liner.

Since this car is a DD first and track toy second, I don't really want to fully remove the fender liner. I know I probably could without issue, but it makes me nervous with the wire looms tucked up in the fender and such...

So here is my attempt at "venting" the fender liner. I added i screen to keep out any big stuff and cut holes such that the free area is at least equal if not greater than that of the vent itself (no bottleneck for airflow through the liner).

[/url

Im happy with the result, i think it should do nicely
