Yeah EBay brings out the dumbest in everyone. I sold an older model (the taller one) V1 for like $50 less than a brand new model. And another sucky part of Valentine: almost $200 to upgrade an older model! You're far better of selling it & buying a new one.
When I enter my 3 year old V1's serial number I get:

"*INSTANT UPGRADE: As soon as we receive your old unit (in operable condition with no tampering of the serial number) we’ll exchange it for a brand-new, current-production V1. This is our way of assuring you’ll be without V1 protection for the shortest time."

New current-produciton unit for $189 with new cords, mounts, manual, new everything. Not bad. Plus they have fixed my current unit 6 months after the warranty, for free. And called me to explain what they fixed.

Has anyone used Bel's Trade-in Program or Warranty repair service? I may have to go Bel next time. Their LaserPro looks nice.

www.radartest.com prefers the new BEL and the Escort over the Valentine (which has barely changed over the years)
radartest.com credibility is questionable.

www.caranddriver.com has a better review. Search on 'radar.' They picked the V1 in 2002.

Passport and Bel are great detectors for the $$. I like the V1 more, so that is what I have.
Can you support why its questionable? Also, caranddriver was the only publication that rated the V1 better, at least a dozen rated the 8500 better.

And I dont think the manufacturers own tests can be accepted :)

Some reading....

All depends on who you want to believe (and give your money to). Tests can be setup to make ANY of the detector wins. The only fact you can't argue about is what they cost. The only thing that works 100% is not speeding. Everything else is debatable.

Actually, the only thing that works 100% is not driving, as some speed traps pick cars out pretty much at random to give tickets to. HPH

got a k40 with laser jammer. custom instal with lights in gauge cluster and speakers in headliner. Front speaker for front detection rear for rear detection. It was expensive but worth it if it prevents only one ticket and I love how stealth it is.
